As a driver, it’s likely you will have experienced the sheer panic of cruising along at night and not noticing a cyclist until you’re right up behind them. Even when cyclists wear reflective clothing and have lights attached to their bicycles, they are often still very difficult to see in the dark.

This of course leads to lots of road accidents every year, but Volvo is now trying to make this problem disappear.

Volvo’s new product, called LifePaint, can be sprayed onto a number of surfaces, from clothing to metal, to shoes and helmets, to make that object more visible in the dark. It works by being completely invisible during the day, until a light shines on it (such as a car’s headlights), and it gains a reflective glow.

LifePaint lasts for ten days after application, but can also be washed off clothes if needed.

The LifePaint product is just one of Volvo’s moves to become the safest car manufacturer by 2020. Their plan is that no-one will be seriously injured or killed by a new Volvo after 2020.

The LifePaint spray is being trialled in a few bike shops in London, but will also be available to buy from Arnold Clark Volvo dealerships soon, too. Contact your local Arnold Clark Volvo garage for more details.
