Finance Options

What types of car finance can I get?

We offer a range of finance options - our sales staff at your local branch will be able to explain what options you have in more detail. Some of the ways you can finance your car with us are through:

  • Personal Contract Purchase (PCP)
  • Hire Purchase (HP)
  • Personal Contact Hire (PCH)

Visit our car finance page to find out more.

What is PCP?

You pay an initial deposit, followed by monthly payments. At the end of your payments, a final larger payment remains. You can either pay this to keep the car, part-exchange for a new car or hand the car back.

What is HP?

You pay an initial deposit, followed by monthly payments which are set by you. Once the final payment is made, the HP contract ends and you own the car.

What is PCH?

You take control of the car for a contractual period and make fixed monthly payments. When the contract expires, you return the car, with the option to take out a contract on a new one.

Applying for Finance

What do you need to finance a car?

You simply need your debit or credit card (to pay the initial deposit) and your driving licence, as a form of identification.

I've been refused finance previously – will I be refused this time?

You will be reconsidered. The decision to provide finance is based on an individual's circumstances, the vehicle in question and the nature of the deal – so a refusal in the past doesn't mean you will never be accepted in the future.

I don't have a great credit rating – can I still get finance?

That doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to arrange a finance deal with us. We work with 26 finance companies to find the right finance package for everyone.

Please do make our team aware if you know you have a poor credit score – it means we can find the right finance option more efficiently.

I'm in negative equity with my current car – can I still get finance?

We can help you to work out the ideal time to change your car - pop into a branch and speak to one of our sales staff. Some of our lenders may be willing to underwrite this type of finance, either as an unsecured personal loan or a hybrid finance arrangement, where the car is on a secured agreement but the negative equity on a personal loan. Please remember that if you do finance the negative equity, you will be repaying it, and any interest, over the term of your new agreement.

I'm facing financial difficulties, what should I do about my existing finance?

If you are struggling financially and are worried that you might not be able to make your finance payments, we would recommend talking to the lender to discuss the options available to you. It is better to do this early on, rather than when you have already missed payments, which would be likely to affect your credit score.

The following organisations and charities also provide free, confidential and impartial debt advice and support. They can help you understand your wider financial situation and can even help speak to lenders on your behalf. The most important thing is that you seek help as early as possible to minimise any impact on your credit file.

Understanding your finance agreement

Who is my finance agreement with?

Please check your bank statement to find the name of the finance company who you are making the monthly payment to.

How will my monthly payments work?

Your monthly payments will depend on the value of the car you’re buying, your deposit, your finance term and the type of finance you choose.

Your first payment is usually about one month after you get your car, and the remaining payments are made monthly until the end of your agreement.

Please check your agreement or speak directly to your finance company (your finance company contact details will be in your agreement) for more information.

Can I change the payment date of my monthly payment?

To change the date, you need to contact your finance company. Please check your bank statement for the name of the company you are making the payment to and use the below contact details to request this change.

Can I switch lenders?

Once your finance agreement is in place, it can’t be transferred to another lender.

However, you may be able to settle your agreement early and apply for new finance. Please check your finance agreement for full details or contact your finance company to discuss further.

I’m looking for my settlement figure – can you help?

To receive your settlement figure, you need to contact your finance company. Please check below for a list of the finance companies that we use to find the contact details of the company that your finance agreement is with.
