What is the Kia Picanto X-Line?
The Picanto is one of Kia’s best-selling cars in the UK. A compact, five-door model that’s ideal for city driving, it offers stylish looks, practicality and exceptional value for money. However, in a market where demand for SUVs and crossovers is higher than ever, city cars have had to adapt. The Picanto X-Line is an example of such adaptations, capitalising on modern motorists’ desire for more rugged aesthetics and improved space.
The Picanto X-Line is 75mm longer, 30mm wider and 15mm higher than the standard model. It stands out from the rest of the range due to the plastic cladding around its wheel arches, as well as it's SUV-style bumpers and skid plates. Completing the look are lime green accents on the grille and fog light surrounds. This detailing continues into the cabin, with the doors, armrest and steering wheel all featuring lime green contrast stitching.
Available between 2019 and 2023, the Kia Picanto X-Line rivals other city cars with a crossover look, such as the Toyota Aygo X, the Ford Fiesta Active and Fiat 500X Sport.
Kia Picanto X-Line history
The Kia Picanto first arrived on UK roads in 2004 and soon proved to be one of the brand’s most popular models. With a useful amount of boot space, nippy performance and unrivalled reliability, it stood out as a smart choice for those looking for a city car. The second-generation edition launched in 2011, providing a higher quality interior, greater luggage capacity and better equipment. Both the first and second generations featured three trims: Picanto 1, Picanto 2 and Picanto 3.
The Mk3 Kia Picanto was introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and arrived in showrooms later the same year. A wider range of trim levels was now available, including the X-Line. Offering a tougher aesthetic and space to seat five, it offered a more practical solution to urban motoring.
The X-Line comes with just one engine choice – a 1.25-litre petrol unit with an output of 83bhp and 129Nm. This is mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox and accelerates from 0-62mph in 12 seconds. When the Kia Picanto received a mid-life refresh in 2023, its styling was heavily revised to align with the Kia Niro and EV9 models. As part of the upgrade, the X-Line variant was removed for the 2024 model year line-up.
Where does the Kia Picanto X-Line sit in the range?
The X-Line was only available as part of the Mk3 Picanto lineup, being on sale from 2019 to 2023. It sits at the higher end of the Picanto range, above the 1, 2 and 3 trims. The GT-Line is also positioned below the X-Line, with the GT-Line S above it. As such, the X-Line offers a host of advanced features in addition to its rugged styling.
What features and equipment does the Picanto X-Line have?
The Kia Picanto X-Line has a more crossover-style appearance than the other trims in the range. It can be identified by its bespoke bumpers, plastic-clad wheel arches and lime green accents. The variant also boasts 16-inch alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights. Inside, the vibrant aesthetic continues with grey faux leather upholstery and lime green contrast stitching. The ride height is slightly raised compared to other trims, giving a more commanding view of the road, and the front seats and steering wheel are heated for your comfort.
Infotainment is accessed via an eight-inch touchscreen, and the X-Line variant has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as well as sat nav and a reversing camera. Other technological highlights include wireless smartphone charging and rear parking sensors.
The X-Line is the only Picanto that’s suitable for five occupants – the others have just four seats. It also boasts a 255-litre boot that expands to 1,010 litres with the 60/40 split rear seats folded. It has a good range of safety kit too, including multiple airbags, forward collision avoidance assist, as well as driver assist systems such as hill start assist and electronic stability control.
