What is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Line?

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a compact executive vehicle that’s designed to deliver comfort, advanced technology and a touch of sportiness. Available in saloon, estate, coupé and convertible body styles, it appeals to a wide range of motorists, from business users and those seeking the thrills of open-top driving to families who want a touch of luxury with their travel.

The C-Class’ four body styles mean it competes against a broad variety of other vehicles. Whichever variant of the C-Class you choose, you can rely on powerful performance and a premium experience.

The AMG Line trim is the mid-tier trim option for the C-Class saloon and estate cars. On the coupé and convertible editions, there is only one trim level and this is the AMG-Line. It is one of the more affordable trim options available with the saloon and estate variants, competing with the likes of the BMW 3 Series M Sport and the Audi A4 S Line.

The AMG Line trim offers a raft of equipment. This ranges from 18-inch alloy wheels and AMG body styling to heated front sports seats, adaptive cruise control and the advanced MBUX infotainment system.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Line history

AMG was established in 1967 as a producer of racing engines. . The acronym stands for Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach, honouring the two founders and the birthplace of Hans Werner Aufrecht. The brand’s racing cars enjoyed great success on the track, and in the late 1980s, AMG began working with Daimler-Benz. In 1990 their partnership was officially cemented and in 1993 their first jointly developed vehicle was released – the Mercedes-Benz C 36 AMG.

In the same year, the Mercedes-Benz 190E model was replaced with a new generation that took on the name C-Class. It offered more space than its predecessor and was also safer, featuring airbags as standard. Saloon and estate variants were available.

The new millennium brought a new generation of C-Class, which boasted a more rounded aesthetic and better handling. Mk3 arrived in 2007, bringing updated looks with larger, squarer headlights, a wider stance and a coupé variant. There was also an overhaul of the engine lineup, which improved efficiency.

It was with the Mk4 C-Class (2014 to 2021) that the AMG Line trim was introduced. Now, the model was available in four body styles and AMG Line sat at the top of the range. Available with both petrol and diesel engines, it offered 18-inch AMG alloy wheels, AMG body styling and sports suspension. Allowing buyers to enjoy the C 63 AMG’s looks and luxury features without the associated price tag.

When the Mk5 C-Class came along in 2021, the trim structure was slimmed down for saloon and estate variants, with the AMG Line becoming the second-tier option. Despite this, the variant offers a generous array of equipment, technology and comfort features, making it anything but basic.

No fewer than six engines are available with both saloon and estate AMG Line body styles. These include a 1.5-litre 204bhp petrol, a 2.0-litre 259bhp petrol, three 2.0-litre diesel units with 197bhp, 200bhp and 265bhp outputs, and a 2.0-litre 313bhp plug-in hybrid. The swiftest is the 265bhp diesel, which can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds. The most efficient is the plug-in hybrid, which has an impressive all-electric range of almost 70 miles (WLTP).

Where does the Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Line sit in the range?

Choose a Mk4 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2014 to 2021) and the AMG Line variant sits at the top of the range, above the SE and Sport models. It comes with a host of extras compared to the lower trims, including sports seats in Artico faux leather, AMG sports pedals and an AMG sports steering wheel. On the Mk5 C-Class, the AMG Line is the mid-tier option, sitting above the Sport and below the AMG Line Premium and AMG Line Premium Plus.

What features and equipment does the C-Class AMG Line have?

Whichever model year you choose, the AMG Line trim offers a range of AMG styling features, including 18-inch AMG alloy wheels, AMG body kit, high gloss chrome accents and a diamond radiator grille. Inside you’ll find Artico faux leather dash trim, Artico sports seats, a Nappa leather AMG sports steering wheel and stainless-steel sports pedals. The variant also boasts lowered suspension, LED headlights, and the brand’s MBUX infotainment system, complete with a 11.9-inch portrait-orientated touchscreen, ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Boot capacity ranges from 315 litres for the PHEV to 490 litres for the estate. Coupé and saloon iterations provide 400 and 455 litres respectively. There’s also adaptive cruise control, active blind spot assist and active lane keeping assist.
