What is the Nissan Qashqai Tekna?

The Nissan Qashqai is comfortably at home in the mid-size SUV market. A family favourite since its launch in 2007, the Qashqai is roomy, practical and stylish. Its highest-level trim, the Tekna, encompasses all of these benefits while adding a premium feel to the cabin and the exterior design.

A part of the Qashqai offering fairly early in its lifespan, the Tekna really rose to prominence on the release of its Mk2. Adding luxury to what is a practical compact crossover SUV, the Tekna trim remains popular as a family car or for those seeking a spacious interior. It retains all of the features that have made the Qashqai a mainstay in the SUV market while maximising comfort and optimising the driving experience.

While some of the Qashqai’s competitors may offer similar appeal to buyers that prioritise practicality, the additional tech and safety features of the Tekna trim are excellent value for money and transform a great family car into a genuinely luxurious experience for drivers and passengers alike.

Nissan Qashqai Tekna history

The Nissan Qashqai Tekna has been a leading competitor in the mid-range SUV market since its launch in 2007. Designed to attract buyers seeking style and substance from a family car, the Mk1 Qashqai was a hit on the UK market. It offered a broad variety of engines to cater for different types of drivers. Its engines range from a 1.5-litre diesel with five-speed manual transmission to a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an automatic gearbox. The Tekna trim was the Qashqai’s flagship trim at launch. It offered drivers a long equipment list that added some premium features to both the interior and exterior, such as a panoramic sunroof and heated front leather seats.

A facelift for the Mk1 in 2009 offered a refresh to the Qashqai Tekna, with a restyling of the front end and an eco-friendly Pure Drive variant introduced. The following year, the model became the tenth best-selling car in the UK – the first time Nissan had made the list since 1983.

The 2014 Mk2 continued the Qashqai Tekna’s trajectory as a consistently popular economical SUV. The engine range was reduced, with almost all Mk2 options carrying a diesel engine ranging between 1.5 litres and 1.7 litres. There was another facelift in 2016, which further streamlined the model’s design, and the Qashqai Tekna was also updated in line with the standard model.

The Mk3 arrived on UK markets in 2021 and was praised for its ultra-modern body that upped its curb appeal to a broader audience. Along with a sleek design update, it also increased the space in the boot and added a wealth of tech features to the cabin as standard.

Nissan also updated the trim range in 2021, which saw the manufacturer put a pause on the Tekna trim for a short period, but it soon returned in 2022 when the new e-Power hybrid model was launched. The first of the range to go hybrid, the Mk3’s entry-level engine is a 1.3-litre turbocharged ‘mild-hybrid’, there is also an e-Power hybrid model which is impressively economical. The Mk3 achieves 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds, and its four-wheel drive models boast a towing capacity of up to 1,800kg.

Where does the Nissan Qashqai Tekna sit in the range?

The Tekna is the top-of-the-range trim for the Nissan Qashqai. While its entry-level trims do offer decent features at an economical price, the tech and safety perks rise in line with the trims. The Tekna ensures no expense is spared, with the best engine options available beneath the bonnet and a wealth of impressive tech and interior features included, from heated seats and steering wheel to a panoramic sunroof and an electric boot. A Tekna+ option was added to the range in 2017, which adds extra seating comfort with Nappa seat leather and lumbar support.

What features and equipment does the Qashqai Tekna have?

The Nissan Qashqai is incredibly popular even in an increasingly saturated SUV market. It’s good on all roads, from country lanes to motorways, and has vast amounts of space both in the cabin and the boot. It’s also low- to mid-range in terms of costs, making it a favourite for those in the market for an economical family crossover. The Tekna, at the top of the range, takes all these benefits and adds a touch of luxury.

The Mk2 Tekna trim puts safety front and centre, which is a big tick for family car buyers. Not only does it include a 360-degree camera, high-beam assist and autonomous emergency braking, but as the top-entry trim it includes Nissan’s ProPilot technology, an innovative driver assist system designed to aid motorway driving.

As well as the above, the Mk3 version of the Nissan Qashqai Tekna adds real panache to the interior. A panoramic sunroof creates an airy feel throughout the cabin, while leather seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and LED running lights add luxury and comfort. A 12-inch infotainment system comes with Amazon Alexa voice recognition, and there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that mirrors the ultra-modern feel of the car’s exterior. A lane departure warning system and tiredness detection also add to the impressive arsenal of safety features, and 19-inch alloy wheels complete the package.
