What is the Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav?

According to Vauxhall, one in four people in the UK have owned or driven an Astra. This affordable, family hatchback has been on our streets since 1980 and undergone many facelifts during those years. The high-spec Elite Nav trim, which first hit the roads in 2016, is well suited to drivers who love the Astra’s reliability and want handy tech features, too.

Praised for its comfort, space and good fuel economy, this good value hatch competes with similar top-level trims like the Renault Megane Iconic, Ford Focus Vignale, Mazda 3 GT Sport Tech and Honda Civic Advance trims.

Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav history

The Astra was the first of the manufacturer’s models to feature front-wheel drive. The Vauxhall Astra arrived in the UK in March 1980 – 35 years before the Elite Nav trim would be introduced. They were essentially right-hand drive versions of the Opel Kadett until production moved to Ellesmere Port in the UK. Three body styles were available for this first generation: three- or five-door hatchback, 2- or 4-door saloon and 3- or 5-door estate.

The first upgrade took place in 1984 when Vauxhall streamlined the body for better aerodynamics. Estate, hatchback, saloon and cabriolet versions were available. This mark went on to win European Car of the Year in 1985. It was during this phase that Vauxhall introduced the Astra GTE.

Mk3 arrived in 1991, along with the advertising slogan: “Every car you’ll ever need.” This generation saw the introduction of GM’s ECOTEC (Emissions Control Optimisation TEChnology) technology. This was available as a convertible, 3-door and 5-door hatchback, a saloon and an estate.

Between 1998 and 2015, Vauxhall released three more generations of the Astra. These improved on its safety, updating the chassis, engines andstreamlined the exterior for sharper looks. The interior was also improved with more features available. Different body types were introduced, including a 5-door hatchback and 5-door estate, and the model retained its popularity. The Mk6 went on to outsell its closest rival, the Ford Focus, in 2010, and was the best-selling car of that year.

The 2016 launch of the seventh generation Vauxhall Astra introduced the Elite Nav trim. The model dropped 200kg in weight and freed up more interior space. All trims on this generation feature alloy wheels, LED lights, aircon, a seven-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth as standard. The Elite Nav trim included a built-in sat nav alongside a suite of the latest technology.

The Elite Nav is available with a choice from a huge range of engines. Some core options include the nine-speed automatic diesel Turbo 122, which has 121bhp, 285Nm of torque and gets from 0-62mph in 10.4 seconds. There's also the VVT Turbo 1.2-litre petrol, which has a six-speed manual gearbox and 142bhp. Using 224Nm of torque, it gets from 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds.

The eighth generation of the Astra was released in 2022. With this release the Ultimate replaced the Elite Nav as the range-topping, non-electric trim option.

Where does the Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav sit in the range?

Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav is the top-level trim available in models from 2015-2021. Subsequent models the Elite Nav sits below the Ultimate.

What features and equipment does the Elite Nav have?

The Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav has a stylish exterior, with 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and silver effect roof rails (in the Sports Tourer). Inside, you’ll find a leather seat trim, heated leather-covered steering wheel and heated front and outer rear seats. There's also Vauxhall OnStar, to keep you safe and connected. Pitched as your personal assistant, Vauxhall OnStar offers automatic crash response, 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, stolen vehicle assistance and more.

The addition of cruise control, electric parking brake and electric folding door mirrors improves your driving experience. There's also automatic lighting with tunnel detection and an anti-dazzle rear-view mirror. An adjustable electric leather driver seat, which has integral massaging and ventilation was an optional extra and may be available on some used models.

The Navi 900 IntelliLink infotainment system provides the onboard entertainment. It has an eight-inch colour touchscreen, offering built-in navigation and hands-free calls with voice control. The system is also equipped with smartphone projection, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity. To keep you comfortable, there’s electronic climate control. This allows you to set different temperatures for different areas of the car.
