What is the Vauxhall Corsa Energy?

The Vauxhall Corsa Energy is a key member in the supermini range with enough features to make it worthy of the Corsa lineup.

The Vauxhall Corsa has been around since 1983, known as the Opel Corsa and the Vauxhall Nova, before settling on its current name for UK drivers in 1993. The Corsa is the UK’s best-selling supermini. It provides stiff competition for the Ford Fiesta, Mazda2 and Peugeot 207. Smart-looking, fun to drive, efficient and roomy, it ticks multiple boxes. It appeals for everyone from new drivers investing in their first car to parents packing up for a weekend away with family.

The Vauxhall Corsa Energy is positioned as your ‘ideal partner’ thanks to a range of petrol and diesel engines. It has a lengthy list of standard features, exciting optional extras and eco-features that help drive up fuel efficiency and cut emissions. The colour options are also plentiful.

Vauxhall Corsa Energy history

The UK’s best-selling supermini began life in September 1982 as the Opel Corsa, available in France, Italy and Spain. By April 1983, the front-wheel drive supermini became the Vauxhall Nova and launched in the UK. Over the next ten years, it would sell half a million units in the UK alone.

In 1993, Vauxhall dropped the Nova name for good in favour of Corsa. The next iteration of the car (the Corsa B) onward carried the Corsa name. Several updates followed: the Corsa C in 2000 and the Corsa D in 2006, which was named Car of the Year in the What Car? Awards.

The Corsa E followed in 2014, featuring a completely new interior. It provided customers with five different petrol engines and one diesel engine options. This mark includes three- and five-door hatchbacks. It had the option offive- and six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission. This generation, the Mk4, also saw the introduction of the ‘Energy’ trim. Available across both the three-door and five-door options, the Energy represented a step up from the entry-level trim and remained popular until the end of the fourth generation Corsa’s lifecycle.

To mark 25 years since the model was first introduced, Vauxhall released the limited-edition Corsa Griffin in 2018. It came with top-level trim and a sleek black styling pack (roof, front grille, door mirrors and tinted rear windows).

In 2019, Vauxhall released a stylish, lighter and more efficient model. Its fifth generation, the Corsa F, was the first developed under PSA ownership. The PSA business owns Peugeot, Citroen and DS.

In 2020, the all-electric Corsa-e became available in the UK. To mark 40 years since the Novas was introduced, a special anniversary edition Corsa launched in 2023. This coincided with a facelift and the release of the latest petrol model.

Where does the Vauxhall Corsa Energy sit in the range?

The Corsa Energy is a mid-level trim in the ever-popular Vauxhall Corsa range. This means that in addition to all the usual features you’ll find in a Corsa, you’ll be treated to some added extras that help improve comfort levels, driveability, efficiency and kerb appeal.

There are several engine choices for the Vauxhall Corsa Energy. The highly efficient 1.0i 12v ecoFLEX petrol delivers 44.8 – 67.3mpg, while the 1.2i 16VVT delivers 40.9 – 64.2mpg or 43.5 – 67.3mpg. The 1.3CDTi 16v (75PS or 95PS) ecoFLEX diesel (also available as Start/Stop) will give you between 53.3 – 78.5mpg and 65.7 – 88.3mpg, depending on your chosen version. Three- or five-door models are available, and you can choose between manual or Easytronic transmissions.

Select the Special Edition Model, and your engine choices include the 1.4i 75PS ecoFLEX, 1.4i 90PS ecoFLEX, 1.4i 90PS Start/Stop ecoFLEX Easytronic, 1.4i 90PS auto, 1.41i 100PS Turbo Start/Stop ecoFLEX, 1.0i 115PS Turbo Start/Stop ecoFLEX diesel and 1.3CDTi 75PS Start/Stop ecoFLEX.

What features and equipment does the Vauxhall Corsa Energy have?

In addition to standard Corsa features like air conditioning and alloy wheels, the Energy trim offers 16-inch alloy wheels, a sliding glass sunroof, climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, tinted rear windows and a technical pack. The interior features a satin stone-effect centre console, an interior pollen filter and a multi-functional display panel. Earlier owners may have opted for the Winter Pack, which features heated front seats and steering wheel, and a one-piece folding rear seat.

Standard safety features include airbags, ABS and driver’s and front seat passenger’s dual-stage airbags. With the Energy trim, options included ISOFIX in the front passenger seat, electronic stability programme or the Protection Pack, including front seat side-impact airbags, full-size curtain airbags and pyrotechnic front lap belt pretensioner system.
