The world’s most popular roadster just got even more impressive. Mazda recently announced a suite of new features designed to improve the driving experience in the facelifted MX-5. Here’s an overview of what you can expect.
For the facelifted MX-5, the revised 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine increases power from 158bhp to 181bhp. This was done by raising the engine’s rev limit – it now spins up to 7,500rpm, a drastic difference compared to the 6,800rpm of the previous MX-5.
Torque has also been increased from 147lb ft to 151lb ft and updates have been made to the 1.5-litre engine, which now delivers 130bhp and 112lb ft of torque.
New customisation options include ‘Caramel Top' and 'Sports Tan' colours for the hood and interior, and a darker paint finish for both 16- and 17-inch alloys.
Steering wheel adjustment might seem minimal at only 30mm, but it goes a long way, especially considering how low the car is. Seat adjustment has been improved as well.
On the road, a change in the exhaust silencer gives the MX-5 a ‘cleaner and more powerful’ sound.
Refining the MX-5’s safety offering has been high on Mazda’s agenda. New additions include advanced smart city brake support (a pedestrian and vehicle collision detection system), available for forward as well as reverse gear, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition and a rear-view camera.
The facelifted model is now available at Arnold Clark from £18,995.
