Kia has unveiled three new small to medium-sized electric models at its first annual 'Kia EV Day' in Korea.
The event featured the debut of the EV5, a compact electric SUV for modern families, as well as the introduction of two concept models.
The Kia Concept EV3 aims to deliver the same features of the recently launched EV9 in a compact SUV, while the Kia Concept EV4 is an electric saloon with a stunning and striking design.
Kia also announced its vision of ‘EVs for all’ and the company's strategy to significantly and rapidly expand its EV model line-up.
The brand aims to introduce smaller EVs, like the EV5, EV4, and EV3 (with prices ranging from roughly £29,000 to £45,000), in a bid to help accelerate the adoption of EVs around the world.
The Kia EV5 draws inspiration from the recently launched and larger EV9 SUV, with a similar extensive interior space.
The EV5’s spacious, light, well-ventilated cabin boasts cutting-edge infotainment and connectivity technology, while physical buttons are kept to a minimum.
The standard model, equipped with a 64kWh battery pack and a 160kW motor, is expected to have a driving range of around 330 miles per charge.
It will have a regenerative braking system and an i-Pedal system that allows drivers to both slow down and accelerate using a single pedal.
Meanwhile, the reclining seats are designed to prevent back and spine discomfort with their continuously adjustable back angle.
The Kia Concept EV3 represents the brand’s vision for an electric compact that effortlessly blends practicality with the sheer joy of driving.
Perched on squared wheel arches, it has a unique shape, with the windscreen pushed forward and a long sloping roofline.
Inside the car, Kia wanted to create an environment that promotes emotional wellbeing, which includes advanced ergonomic seat design and soft mood lighting.
The folding bench-type rear seat is flexible and can be effortlessly folded upward, allowing for storing bulky luggage such as electric scooters and bicycles.
Its four-door format might suggest it should be categorised as a saloon, but the Kia Concept EV4 is certainly innovative.
With a sleek low nose, an elongated shape and roof spoiler, it has all the attributes reminiscent of sports and racing cars.
The interior features a spacious horizontal layout, incorporating stylish design elements that prioritise the driver's experience without obstructing their view. To achieve this, Kia designers have placed an air conditioning control panel that can be neatly stored away in the centre console when it's not being used.
