What is the Audi A1 S line

The S line is a high-level trim on the Audi A1. First unveiled with the release of the model in 2010, the S line offers a combination of upmarket sports car styling and a premium interior. This makes it an excellent option if you’re looking for a desirable, compact supermini.

On the road, the S line stands out thanks to its new front grille, angular side skirts and revised rear bumper. It also sits on new 17-inch alloy wheels with a three-spoke design ensuring it turns heads wherever it goes. The S line also features signature S line sports suspension, which is a step-up from the mid-tier Sport trim. This suspension is firmer than the entry and mid-tier trims, Technik and Sport.

The Audi A1 S line is also a practical trim and comes with a 270-litre boot space, which is more than the Fiat 500’s 185 litres. This space can also be expanded to 920 litres – perfect for a handful of small bags and luggage.

Step into the cockpit, and you’ll enjoy a luxurious and high-quality interior with smooth leather running across the upholstery, multi-functional steering wheel and dashboard. Buttons and switches have also been coated with smooth plastic, giving the cabin a hard-wearing feel. Metal finishes have been added to the air conditioning grilles, multi-functional steering wheel and gearstick for added contrast.

The S line can come with a range of petrol or diesel engines. In the petrol line-up, there are two 1.4-litre TFSI engines, which can generate either 123bhp or 148bhp. The former accelerates to 62mph in 8.9 seconds. The latter goes from 0-62mph in just over 7.9 seconds.

You can also find used Audi A1 S line cars with a diesel engine. This is a 1.6-litre TDI which generates 114bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds.

Audi A1 S line history

The S line was first released as part of the Audi A1 Mk1’s trim range in 2010. Sitting above the SE and Sport trims, the S Line added new sports seats, suspensions and came with larger wheels. Until the release of the Black Edition in 2012, the S Line was the flagship trim on the Mk1 and was available as both a three and five-door model.

The second generation of the Audi A1 went on sale in 2019. Compared to the Mk1, the Mk2 sits higher on the road, offering a 15mm increase in ground clearance. It also had a refined engine choice and was available with more diesel engines than petrol. The S Line was included as one of the higher-level trims in the Mk2’s trim range and, unlike the Mk1, was also available in three new lines: the S Line Competition, S Line Contrast Edition and S Line Style Edition.

The S line Competition adds a new front grille, air intakes, a sporty diffuser and gloss black tailpipes. The S line Contrast Edition is available in an electric yellow and black trim, and also adds 18-inch alloy wheels. The S line Style Edition adds even more exterior colouring and is available in a range of metallic and pearl-finish colourways, including Ice Silver, Phantom Black, Misano Red and Glacier White.

Where does the Audi A1 S line sit in the range?

The S line trim was released as one of the higher-level trims on the A1. There is the entry-level trim, Technik, and a mid-tier Sport trim with fewer specifications. The S line trim sits above those two, with the flagship trim being the Black Edition.

What equipment does the Audi A1 S line have?

The S Line trim comes with partial leather and cloth upholstery across all seats, ensuring all passengers stay comfortable on long journeys. For added luxury, the front seats also come with manual lumbar adjustment, which is a welcome inclusion that increases comfort compared to the Sport trim. The multi-functional steering wheel also comes with perforated leather for extra grip while you drive.

The contrasting stainless-steel pedals make it feel like you’re about to take control of a true sportscar. Throughout the interior, there are signature S line details that add touches of style. You will find S line kick plates as you open the door and S line badges across the front wings for attractive styling. Both the front and rear bumper also come with S line badges.

On the centre console, the Audi A1 S line trim has a 6.5-inch display – something that’s standard across all A1 trim levels. This screen contains the infotainment system, which comes with Bluetooth streaming and sat nav. The Bluetooth in S Line trims and above also comes with voice-activation functionality, which allows you to quickly change songs while keeping your eyes on the road.

Another upgrade on the Sport trim is the S line’s xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights which help make your model more visible to other road users. You will find interior ambient lighting included as standard on the S line trim, adding a touch a welcome luxury to the cabin.
