129 used Audi A4 cars in stock

As a line of compact luxury executive cars, the Audi A4 first debuted in 1994 with the fifth generation launched 2015. The sixth generation launches with the all-electric A4 E-tron in 2024. The A4 remains one of Audi’s top sellers. Stylish, sporty and exuding charisma, the A4 is an internationally recognised model and one of many Audi cars to have won the prestigious German Golden Steering Wheel award. It was voted the Best Mid-Sized Car in the 2016 annual Auto Motor und Sport magazine and was named as the UK’s most reliable car in the 2019 FN50 reliability survey.

Donning the Audi badge with pride, the A4 has always managed to hold its own next to core rivals like the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. With beautiful styling, an abundance of technology and comfort features that make it easy to sit back and relax in luxury, the A4’s appeal is clear. This car is also available in multiple body styles including a saloon and estate, as well as five trim levels on the most recent models: Technik, Sport, S-Line, Black Edition and Vorsprung. There are a range of low-output diesel engines, powerful petrol options, with more electrified powertrains options available with the sixth generation.

Practicality and style of the car

If you’re looking for a premium vehicle that’s as stylish as it is practical, you’ve come to the right place. The Audi A4 accommodates five adults with ease making it a great choice for work-related trips and family adventures alike. There’s plenty of leg and headroom for all, as well as a range of seat-adjustment options and wide-opening doors for easy access. ISOFIX child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats come as standard. For adventurous explorers looking to bring a trailer or caravan along, the braked towing capacity of the A4 lies between 1,300 and 2,100kg depending on the engine.

With a 480-litre boot, there’s plenty of room for luggage and this expands to an impressive 965-litres with the rear seats down. The rear seats also operate with a 40:20:40 split, meaning the middle and two outer seats can be collapsed independently.

If you want an even bigger boot, the estate model (which Audi calls the Avant) offers a 505-litre boot with a wider opening. This is 10 litres larger than that of a BMW 3 Series Touring, and 15 litres bigger than the Mercedes-Benz C-Class estate’s boot. With the rear seats folded, the maximum luggage capacity for the Avant is 1,510 litres.

Running costs

The Audi A4 is also cost-effective to run considering its badge and punchy engine options. Vehicles from 2015 onwards largely sit between groups 19-30 out of 50, depending on the trim and engine you choose. Opt for the powerful Black Edition and the insurance group rises to between 31-38.

Tax for both the saloon and Avant varies; those registered after April 2017 and with a list price of under £40,000 incur the standard £180 annual fee. Those over £40,000 have an additional charge for the first five years, pushing tax up to £570 before it returns to the standard £180 charge. Service and MOT plans are also available to keep Audi A4 maintenance costs as low as possible.

How a used Audi A4 drives

If you’re new to the Audi line-up it might take a little while to get your head around the engine naming system, but it’s actually pretty straightforward. Audi uses a numerical system to describe how powerful each engine is. Small numbers equate to a less powerful engine whereas high numbers represent the punchier, higher performance models. TFSI signals a petrol engine whereas TDI refers to a diesel.

The Audi A4 has both petrol and diesel engines available. There’s the 35 TFSI, a 2.0-litre unit producing 148bhp and achieving up to 49.6mpg. This can reach 0-62 mph in 8.6 seconds. The more powerful 40 TFSI is a 2.0-litre engine producing 187bhp and achieving 47.9–48.7mpg. This does 0-62mph in a faster time of 7.1 seconds. The speediest petrol engine of them all, the 45 TFSI, produces 343bhp, achieves up to 42.2mpg and can reach 62mph from a standstill in just 5.5 seconds, making it a true powerhouse out on the road.

As for the diesel offerings, all of them are 2.0-litre units offering variations in power and responsiveness. The entry-level diesel is a 30 TDI producing 134bhp and up to 72.4mpg. This reaches 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds. The 35 TDI produces 161bhp and up to 56.5mpg. It reaches 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds and is a top pick thanks to its turbo diesel engine combined with a 7-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox. Last but not least is the 40 TDI, producing 201bhp, achieving up to 65.7mpg and completing 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds.

Revisions to the Audi A4 range in 2019 mean that all newer engines are equipped with fuel-saving mild-hybrid technology.

Features you can expect in a Audi A4

Interior

Step inside a used Audi A4 and discover a beautifully crafted and well-organised cabin that’s as luxurious as you’d expect from such a premium manufacturer. The A4 feels spacious compared to its rivals, with lower mounted seats creating additional headroom and an extended wheelbase providing even the tallest passengers with abundant legroom. Newer models are also slightly wider, meaning more shoulder room even when the car is fully occupied.

Quality materials feature throughout the cabin, with higher trims boasting either part-leather or full-leather sports seats. There are striking features throughout, including multi-coloured LED interior lighting and an electric sunroof which floods the cabin with natural light. Cubby holes up front and in the rear keep the interior neat and the dashboard is intuitive and well-presented.

Technology

Newer models also feature a Virtual Cockpit system. This displays all relevant information including navigation, audio telephone and more on a 12.3-inch LCD screen replacing standard instruments. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offer smartphone connectivity on-the-go. The range-topping Vorsprung trim also gets a Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System.

A true performer, the Audi A4 caters to all types of drivers whether you’re looking for a responsive petrol or an economic diesel. There are manual transmission options on earlier vehicles, although all models made after 2022 come with an automatic transmission. The A4 also comes in either front or four-wheel drive variants depending on your travel needs.

Safety

As for safety, the Audi A4 received a full five-star Euro NCAP award, scoring highly for occupant protection, with 89% for adults and 87% for children. It’s fitted with a wide selection of driver aids and safety features. These include Hill-Hold Assist, which prevents the car from backwards when you’re pulling away on an incline, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to keep the vehicle balanced and stable, and Parking System Plus which consists of front and rear parking sensors to aid manoeuvres.

Audi A4 S Line

The luxury continues with the S-Line which adds 19-inch alloy wheels, upgraded LED headlights, high-beam assist, sports suspension and a sports styling kit into the mix. You can also expect leather and Alcantara sports seats that provide optimum support for the driver and passengers.

Audi A4 Black Edition

In addition to S-Line it offers revised 19-inch alloys, a full gloss black exterior styling kit, piano black interior inlays and a sports steering wheel.

Audi A4 Vorsprung
