The Audi Q2 is a subcompact luxury crossover and is the smallest model in the manufacturer’s SUV range. Audi Q2 Black Edition history

The Audi Q2 was first unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and arrived in showrooms later that year. Its innovative design earned it a prestigious Red Dot award in 2017 and it proved instantly popular with UK buyers, selling over 81,000 units in its first year.

The Black Edition is formed part of the original trim lineup for the Q2, available from launch in 2016. It tops the model’s range, only sitting below the high-performance SQ2, which has its own unique spec to match its extra power.

The SQ2 Black Edition was released in 2018; this sat above the regular Black Edition variant, but was distinguished more for its high performance levels than additional equipment.

What features and equipment does the Q2 Black Edition have?

The key features that set the Black Edition apart from the rest of the range are the trim’s black styling touches. All the exterior detailing is jet black, the 19-inch alloy wheels are gloss black and there is rear privacy glass to complete the aesthetic.

The Black Edition offers the same premium features as the S-Line. This includes manual air conditioning, a WiFi hotspot, sports seats with electric lumbar adjustment, and an infotainment system with an 8.3-inch screen, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Additional technology includes cruise control, rear parking sensors and a power-operated tailgate, which makes loading and unloading items from the boot easier. Luggage capacity ranges from 405 cubic litres with the rear seats in place to 1,050 litres with them folded down.

In terms of safety, you’ll benefit from automatic emergency braking, three ISOFIX anchor points to secure children’s car seats, six airbags and e-Call. This clever feature contacts the emergency services on your behalf should you be involved in a collision.

The Q2 Black Edition comes with two engine options. The entry-level 1.0-litre petrol engine produces 110bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 11.2 seconds. The higher-powered 1.5-litre petrol unit delivers 150bhp and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. Both achieve a 0-62mph time of 8.6 seconds. All come with front-wheel drive as standard, while the SQ2 Black Edition offers four-wheel drive.

The Audi Q2 was discontinued in 2023. In an official statement, the manufacturer outlined its plans to move away from small cars to focus on its larger models and the electrification of its model lineup.
