What is the Peugeot 208 GT Line?

The Peugeot 208 GT Line, also known as the GT, is a sporty variant of the standard Peugeot 208 supermini. First introduced in 2015, it sits at the top of the Mk1 208 range and features sporty design elements and high-end technology. This makes it popular with style-conscious drivers and those looking for a compact city car that offers all the latest equipment.

The Mk2 208 arrived in 2019 and the GT Line remained a key part of the lineup, being renamed simply ‘GT’. This variant is distinguished by its 17-inch alloy wheels, gloss black wheel arch extensions and a blacked-out front grille.

The supermini segment is highly competitive, and the Peugeot 208 GT Line has a number of rivals. These include the Ford Fiesta ST-Line, Volkswagen Polo GTI, and Renault Clio RS Line.

Peugeot 208 GT Line history

The Peugeot 208 made its debut in 2012, stepping into a fiercely competitive market that was already crowded with well-established rivals. It was designed to replace the 207, a model that had enjoyed immense popularity and had set high expectations. The 208 not only met these expectations but also brought a fresh, modern approach, making it an instant hit among motorists and experts alike.

Recognising the demand for a more dynamic and sporty variant within the 208 range, Peugeot introduced the GT Line as a specialised trim option in 2015. This new addition successfully blended performance attributes with everyday practicality, making it a compelling choice for those who wanted a bit more zest from their daily drive without compromising on utility.

In 2019, the Peugeot 208 entered its second generation, bringing with it a host of technological advancements and design improvements. The GT Line benefitted from these upgrades, further solidifying its position as a standout option in the 208 lineup.

Adding to its list of accomplishments, the second-generation Peugeot 208 was awarded the prestigious 2020 European Car of the Year title. This accolade not only elevated the status of the 208 but also underscored the exceptional qualities of the GT Line variant.

Equipped with a range of efficient petrol, diesel, and even electric powertrains, the Peugeot 208 GT Line offers plenty of choice.. The 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine offers an impressive 130bhp and can accelerate from 0-62mph in a brisk 8.1 seconds. If you prefer diesel power, the 1.5-litre BlueHDi engine provides 100bhp and achieves 0-62mph time of 10.2 seconds.

Ultimate efficiency, however, is reserved for the e-208 GT-Line variant. It delivers a zero-emissions driving experience without sacrificing performance. This model boasts 136bhp, matches the petrol engine's 0-62mph time and offers a range of up to 217 miles.

Where does the Peugeot 208 GT Line sit in the range?

The Peugeot 208 GT Line represents the second-top option in the Peugeot 208 lineup. It blends sporty aesthetics, efficient engines and a well-appointed interior. Its unique design sets it apart, offering a more avant-garde look compared to the more conservative styling of some rivals.

What features and equipment does the Peugeot 208 GT Line have?

For enhanced sportiness, the Peugeot 208 GT Line is fitted with aluminium pedals and a Mistral full-grain perforated leather steering wheel. Exterior equipment is smart too, featuring 17-inch Camden alloy wheels, full LED headlights with high beam assist, GT Line bumpers, badging and dark chrome front grille, wheel arch extensions, rear spoiler and a black diamond roof.

The Peugeot 208 GT Line provides exceptional comfort and practicality to complement the sporty aesthetic. The cabin comes equipped with a range of features including automatic air conditioning, a front centre armrest with storage and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. This opens up a 311-litre boot space to a cavernous 1,106 litres, ensuring your transportation needs are always covered. New buyers are offered an optional panoramic glass roof to help boost the sense of spaciousness, so some used variants can be found with this.

The infotainment system is comprehensive, with the 10-inch colour touchscreen offering DAB radio, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Visio Park 1 pack – standard on GT Line from 2019 onwards – provides front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera and Semi Auto Park Assist, which takes control of steering and acceleration when parking. Additional safety measures include driver attention warning, lane keep assist, Peugeot Connect SOS and Assistance, and traffic sign recognition.
