What is the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo trim?

The Monte Carlo trim is a flagship trim on the compact supermini – the Škoda Fabia. This trim was first introduced to the model during the facelift of the second-generation Fabia in 2010. Since its launch, the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo has offered a combination of luxury, style and powerful performance, making it a great option if you’re looking for a premium and powerful supermini.

Due to its style and engines, the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo is a desirable trim when compared to similarly well-designed and stylish models, such as the Renault Clio and Vauxhall Corsa. This also makes it very well suited to city driving, commuting and routine journeys.

The Monte Carlo trim is available across the Škoda Fabia’s hatchback and estate bodies and is named after Škoda’s world rally car heritage.

Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo history

The Škoda Fabia was first released in 1999 and was initially available as a hatchback, estate and saloon. The first generation was the What Car? Car of the Year in 2000 and was available with a range of petrol and diesel engines. It received a facelift in 2004 which revised the model’s front and rear bumpers, front grille, added new trims and introduced new technology to the interior.

The second-generation was released in 2007 and was larger than the Mk1. As part of the Mk2’s facelift in 2009, the Monte Carlo trim was added to the model’s lineup. It was designed using components from Škoda’s sports car concepts and was intended to be a sporty and performance-tuned version of the Fabia model. It was made available on both the hatchback and estate bodies.

When the third generation Škoda Fabia was launched in 2014, the Monte Carlo trim was retained. As with the Mk2, the Monte Carlo sat at the middle-upper trim level offering a combination of performance and premium design. When the Mk3 received a facelift in 2019, the model’s trim range was revised, and the Monte Carlo became the flagship trim in the range.

During this facelift, the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo received a remodelled front bumper, a wider front grille, and full LED headlights. As the top-level trim, the Monte Carlo was also equipped with a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The fourth generation of the Škoda Fabia was launched in 2021 and was initially available with four trims: S, SE Comfort, SE L and Colour Edition. The Monte Carlo trim was released later and was a high-level trim.

Designed as a sporty trim, the Monte Carlo trim has a unique engine that isn’t available on other trims. It is a 1.5-litre TSI engine that generates 148bhp – 40bhp more than the standard 1.0-litre engine available on other trims. This takes the Monte Carlo from 0-62mph in eight seconds and has a top speed of 140mph. It is paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Where does the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo sit in the range?

When first added to the trim line-up, the Monte Carlo was a mid-to-higher level trim. In the second-generation trim range, it sat above the 1, 2, Sport and 3 trims but below the high-end GreenLine trim.

The Monte Carlo trim remained a high-level trim in the Mk3, sitting above the S, SE and SE L trims, but below the Colour Edition. During the Fabia’s mid-life facelift, the Monte Carlo became the flagship trim.

In the fourth generation, the Monte Carlo has been retained as the flagship trim and sits above the S, SE Comfort, SE L and Colour Edition trims.

What features and equipment does the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo have?

On the exterior, the Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo has unique styling to mark it as the flagship trim. This includes a front bumper with a chin spoiler, deeper side skirts and an extended rear spoiler for improved aerodynamic handling. It also sits on 17-inch alloy wheels – the largest wheels available on the Škoda Fabia’s trims.

Inside, there’s black and red contrasting across the upholstery and dashboard, contributing to the sporty inspiration of this trim. You’ll have front sports seats that offer excellent support as well as leather-trimmed integrated headrests for added comfort. Your handbrake, multifunctional steering wheel and gearstick also feature plenty of leather, ensuring good grip while you drive. The steering wheel comes with signature Monte Carlo badging.

The dashboard is coated with a carbon fibre-look finish, and you’ll also find red inserts on the door and dashboard cards for even more styling.

For entertainment while you drive, the Monte Carlo trim comes with the largest infotainment touchscreen in the lineup – an eight-inch infotainment display.
