Our latest used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross cars in stock now

The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross appeals to buyers in the small SUV market. Affordable, practical and fun to drive, the SX4 S-Cross stands out on the roads with its unique, streamlined exterior. It’s an agile drive on country roads and also has real power when it hits the motorway. It’s also got a well-made, durable interior that doesn’t forego home comforts or technological perks.

Initially launched in 2013 as the Mk2 of the 2006 Suzuki SX4, the SX4 S-Cross itself has enjoyed high praise since its release. Awarded the Crossover of the Year by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers at the 2014 Scottish Car of the Year awards, its generous equipment and spaciousness ensured it was a serious player in the compact SUV marketplace. A Mk3 S-Cross followed in 2021, but it’s the SX4 S-Cross, manufactured between 2013 and 2021, that has a winning combination of practicality and comfort.

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross updates and facelifts

After releasing the SX4 S-Cross in 2013 as an updated version of the 2006 Suzuki SX4, three years later it was given a fairly major facelift. The update added a sleeker looking body, which was designed around Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology. The facelift also added a seven-inch infotainment screen to the dash for most trim levels, and importantly switched the SX4 S-Cross’s previous four engine options – three petrol, one diesel – to a single 1.4-litre mild-hybrid BoosterJet petrol engine.

Practicality and style of the car

The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross has an impressive boot capacity of 430 litres. With the seats fully down, the capacity is more than doubled, coming in at a handy 875 litres. The added bonus of 60/40 folding seats allows occupants to pack in luggage while retaining at least one of the rear seats.

While it is comparatively compact as an SUV, the used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross has been widely praised for its towing capabilities. Presented with the 2019 Best Budget 4x4 prize by the Tow Car Awards, it can tow up to 1,200kg. It can easily manage a small caravan, adding to its appeal as a family holiday car.

Running costs

The economical nature of a used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is reflected in its low running costs. As well as its reasonable price tag, it sits between insurance groups 13 and 26, depending on power and trim level. Road tax is reasonable too, starting at as little as £20 per year and capping out at £180.

How a used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross drives

A choice of five-gear or six-gear manual and automatic transmission options are available, which drivers can pick to suit their driving needs and general lifestyle.

In its original 2013 form, the used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross was made available with both a petrol and diesel 1.6-litre engine. Both of which can produce 118bhp, achieving 0-62mph in 11 seconds for the petrol and 12 seconds for the diesel. The former drives at up to 51.3mpg, while the latter is more economical, offering 51.3–68.9mpg.

Subsequent changes beneath the bonnet saw 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines added to the SX4 S-Cross line up. The smaller of the two is highly economical, offering 53.2mpg and still delivering some punch with 109bhp. The 1.4-litre added more power though, with 138bhp to its name and a 0-62mph time of 10.2 seconds.

The most recent update brought mild hybrid technology. A 1.4-litre 48v BoosterJet petrol engine delivers 129bhp and 235Nm of torque, with a range-topping 0-62mph acceleration speed of 9.5 seconds from its four-wheel drive model. The 48v battery, paired with an integrated Starter Generator, takes some of the load off the engine, keeping the infotainment and air conditioning running while the petrol engine is off at low speeds. It also has power when accelerating from a standstill.

Features you can expect to find in a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross

Interior

Spaciousness is one of the primary benefits of the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross. A used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross sits in the small SUV market but, being tall and fairly wide, it’s easily large enough to fit five passengers, stacks of luggage or a combination of both. Back rests in the rear can be adjusted either to sit upright or reclined, improving comfort and adding some extra room.

The interior is practical and highly reliable, with a clean feel helped by an uncluttered dash. Large storage buckets can be found in the doors, and the large glovebox is really handy, too.

The 2016 update brought more soft-touch materials throughout, with multiple controls on the steering wheel rather than the dash, keeping the most important elements well within arm’s reach. An impressive touchscreen infotainment system is available for all but the entry-level trims. MirrorLink smartphone connectivity and sat nav are integrated as standard, while higher-level trims include further premium additions, such as dual-zone climate control and an upgraded stereo system.

Technology

With cruise control coming as standard, Suzuki has ensured that drivers of the used SX4 S-Cross have access to many features that enhance the driving experience. Power-adjustable mirrors – that are also heated – are also available even at entry-level trim, alongside a telescopic steering wheel. Upping the premium feel with higher-level trims, drivers can expect keyless entry, auto lights and wipers, parking sensors and a rear parking camera.

Safety

It comes as no surprise that the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross has impressive safety credentials to its name. It received the full five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP upon its launch in 2013. A highly impressive 92% adult occupant safety rating, paired with a child occupant safety rating of 80%. ISOFIX seating also allows for the easy installation of up to two car seats, earmarking the SX4 S-Cross as a great family car.

With electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring and a pedestrian-friendly body, the SX4 S-Cross has been designed with safety at its core. Also included as standard safety features are anti-lock brakes and hill-hold assistance. The top-entry trim adds Radar Brake Support, warning drivers of any collision risks ahead, and if necessary, applying brakes automatically.

Trims available on the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross SZ4

The SZ4 is Suzuki’s entry-level trim for the SX4 S-Cross. It includes 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the welcome additions of cruise control, dual air conditioning and electric heated mirrors offering a touch of premium to the economical choice. Also included is a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity inside, while a silver roof rack and skid plates are part of the package.

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross SZ-T

The used SX4 S-Cross mid-level trim increases alloy wheels to 17 inches, with the most notable additions being parking assistance. Both rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera are useful additional features to the SZ4. The SZ-T trim also adds keyless entry and an upgraded stereo system for good measure.

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross SZ5

Top of the range for the used Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is the SZ5 trim. A genuinely premium feel comes with the top-entry package; leather upholstery and adaptive cruise control are added, as well as heated front seats. A more open feel to the cabin’s interior is created by a panoramic glass sunroof and ambient lighting, while LED headlights are also added for optimised visibility on the roads.
