Following in the footsteps of the Vauxhall Mokka, the Mokka X’s combination of practicality, style and engine performance make it a highly desirable crossover SUV. Unveiled in 2016, the Mokka X boasts an updated outer style, including sleeker headlights and bumpers. New technology, such as a new digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment display were also included.

The Mokka X also expanded on the Mokka’s range of petrol and diesel engines. These capable engines also ensure that the model is as equally well-suited to city driving as it is to long-distance adventures.

The model is also a more compact version of the Mokka. Its smaller dimensions make it one of the most compact crossover SUVs on the market, offering a satisfying drive that is well-suited to navigating narrow country roads and tight city parking spots. The Mokka X appeals to a wide range of different drivers through its practical design and efficiency and competes with other subcompact SUVs, such as the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, and SEAT Arona.

Vauxhall Mokka X updates and facelifts

Released in 2016, the Mokka X was a facelift of the original Mokka model. Some additions included drive-enhancing technology, such as cruise control, parking sensors and high beam assist. A touchscreen infotainment system was also added, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

The Mokka X’s range of four trims also means you can find used Mokka X cars available with premium features such as rear privacy glass and a heated steering wheel.

Practicality and style of the car

Compared to the Mk1 Mokka, the Mokka X’s length of 4,151mm, height of 1,531mm and width of 1,791mm mean it is 129mm shorter and 115mm smaller than the original model. However, it is also 16mm wider. The Mokka X is one of the most compact SUVs in its classification. It is 76mm shorter, 54mm smaller and 8mm narrower than the Renault Captur. It is also 59mm shorter and 62mm smaller than the Nissan Juke.

Relative to its compact size, the Mokka X offers good leg, knee and headroom for five adults. There are also lots of cubbies for keeping the cabin tidy, including a well-sized glovebox, door bins and a cubby at the bottom of the centre console.

The Mokka X offers good space with a 356-litre boot space as standard – more than the Nissan Juke’s 251-litre and MINI Countryman’s 350-litre boot space. The space can also be expanded to 1,375 litres which is among the largest in this vehicle category.

The Mokka X’s maximum braked towing capacity of 1,200kg is enough for some small trailers. Fitting child safety seats is also easy thanks to the two ISOFIX points on the rear outer seats.

Running costs

A used Vauxhall Mokka X offers good value with its insurance premiums running from group 7 to 18 which is average for this vehicle class. It also qualifies for a maximum annual road tax of £180. The Active trim with start/stop EcoFLEX technology costs only £20 in road tax thanks to its emission-saving technology.
