The Vauxhall Mokka is a compact SUV offering attractive exterior style, engine performance and cabin comfort and practicality.

Vauxhall Mokka updates and facelifts

With the first generation of Mokka launching in 2012, a facelift in 2016 ushered in style enhancements including sleek LED headlights and a remodelled bumper. The Mk2 was released in 2020, adding smart technology and hybrid engines as well as an all-electric model to the Mokka.

The Mokka competes with other compact SUVs, such as the Ford Puma and Renault Captur, in the B vehicle segment, but thanks to its variety of engines and great practicality, the Mokka remains a desirable model.

Used Mokkas are available with petrol or diesel engines, while some may also come as plug-in hybrids to offer drivers additional fuel economy. An all-electric version is also available, the Vauxhall Mokka Electric. Drivers can pick from a wide variety of trims, each offering different levels of aesthetic tweaks, engine enhancements and technology to further add to the Mokka’s appeal.

Practicality and style of the car

The Mokka’s compact dimensions add to its practical appeal, with the Mk2’s length of 4,151mm making it 129mm shorter than the Mk1 of 2012. The Mk2 Mokka is also 56mm shorter than the Ford Puma and 90mm shorter than the ŠKODA Kamiq, making it one of the most compact vehicles in the subcompact SUV class and great for parking in those tight spots its rivals can’t fit in.

The Mokka offers decent boot space, around 350 litres of space with the rear seats up. This can be expanded to 1,105 litres with the rear bench folded, almost rivalling the space offered by the Ford Puma’s boot, but in a car with a smaller footprint. The rear bench splits and folds in a traditional 60/40 configuration, giving you the flexibility to expand the boot to suit while still being able to carry one or two people in the back.

There is a comfortable amount of headroom throughout the cabin. Used Mokkas feature compact door bins as well as a front glovebox which can store small handheld accessories. Rear seats also have a compact map holder for additional space. Some Mokkas can also tow up 1,200kg –enough for a trailer or compact caravan, adding to the Mokka’s practical appeal. The Mokka is a great family car too, thanks to its ISOFIX brackets on the two outer rear seats as well as on the front passenger seat.

Running costs

Depending on age and trim, the Mokka can often fall into an insurance group between 13 and 20, with higher trims falling into 21 or 22. This is the same as the Ford Puma and ŠKODA Kamiq. It’s also reasonable to tax, with the Mk2 costing a flat rate of just £180 annually. Road tax costs vary for the Mk1 depending on the engine or trim, varying from £20 to £240 annually.

Used Mokkas will come with a 1.2-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine which can be configured to generate either 99bhp or 134bhp. The former can accelerate to 62mph in 11 seconds while achieving 51.4mpg. The 134bhp variant can accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds while achieving 51.4mpg.

Other models may come with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. This engine can produce 109bhp, can accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.8 seconds and can achieve up to 65.7mpg.

CO2 emissions on many of the petrol engines vary between 124g/km to 133g/km, while diesel engines emit around 114g/km.

The Vauxhall Mokka electric is also available. These models have a single, front-mounted electric motor which produces 134bhp and up to 250Nm of torque. This engine can accelerate to 62mph in 8.7 seconds. Powered by a 50kWh battery, the Mokka’s top speed is 93mph and has a claimed range up to 209 miles.

Another 154bhp electric motor generates 160Nm of torque thanks to a 54kWh battery. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in under 10 seconds, while achieving a claimed 252-mile range.

Many Mokkas are built on the CMP chassis, which is a multi-energy platform that can be easily adapted to electric, petrol and diesel engines. The chassis delivers a comfortable driving experience and can be paired with six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic for seamless power delivery.

Interior

A high driving position inside provides a broad road view, making manoeuvring and navigating easier. LED headlights and daytime running lights are available on some cars, enhancing nighttime visibility.

The dashboard, buttons, switches and steering wheel are coated with a glossy finish and are made from soft materials. Plastic is used minimally throughout the cabin to add to the Mokka’s quality feel.
