Our latest used Mazda 6 cars in stock now

Stylish, practical and with agile handling, the Mazda6 is a large family car that appeals to those looking for a reliable car for family life and the day-to-day commute but still offers a dynamic, sport-like drive. The Mazda6 is available as a saloon or as an estate, named the Mazda6 Tourer.

Mazda6 updates and facelifts

The Mazda6 comes with a range of efficient and powerful engines available in petrol and diesel. It also comes with a comprehensive range of safety features so you can approach every journey with complete confidence.

Once a hatchback, the Mk3 Mazda6 came out in 2012, which saw the car revert to a saloon-style design. In 2015, it had a facelift that gave the interior a more modern and contemporary look. Additional technology was added in 2017, such as the seven-inch infotainment screen.

In 2018, all trim levels were given an upgrade, ensuring the car meets the needs of modern drivers. In addition, a new 2.5-litre petrol engine was added, and the 2.2-litre diesel received some subtle design changes that increased its power. The car's suspension was also adapted to make it more responsive.

The Mazda6’s closest rivals include the Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and Škoda Superb. It also competes well with premium models such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Practicality and style of the car

With sleek contouring, the Mazda6 is a handsome choice. But it certainly isn’t all about looks, as it is also a practical, reliable choice and a good family car alternative to an SUV. With the saloon version offering a 480-litre boot and the estate offering 522 litres, the Mazda6 has a good amount of space for shopping bags, suitcases and other luggage.

This can be expanded using the pair of handles in the boot that allows you to fold flat the rear seats. This expands the boot to 1,632 litres in the saloon and the estate to 1,648 litres. This is larger than the 1,152 litres offered by the Volkswagen Passat and matches that of the Ford Mondeo. This creates a flat loading bay that makes it easy to transport larger items.

The Mazda6 can also tow between 1,300kg and 1,600kg, depending on the engine type you choose, which is enough to easily tow a small trailer.

Running costs

A Mazda6 falls into insurance groups 16 to 31 and has a yearly road tax between £20 to £180. While the Mazda6’s rivals fall into a similar insurance group range, road tax can be significantly higher. The Ford Mondeo, for example, has a road tax up to £290, and the ŠKODA Superb’s road tax can be up to £570.

How a used Mazda6 drives

There are both petrol and diesel engines available with a used Mazda6.

The petrol engine line-up consists of a 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine which can put down 143bhp or 163bhp. This does 0 to 62mph in around 10 seconds. This engine also has good fuel efficiency; the 143bhp version returns between 41.5-47.9mpg, while the 163bhp version returns between 40.4-42.2mpg. Automatic and manual transmission are available with the 143bhp version, while the 163bhp version has a manual gearbox.

In iterations before 2018, the 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G engine is available which is capable of 191bhp. This comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and achieves 0 to 62mph in 8.1 seconds. This engine returns around 38.2mpg.

The diesel range consists of two engines. First is the 148bhp 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D engine, which achieves 0 to 62mph in 10 seconds. On higher trim levels, a 181bhp 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D engine is available which completes 0 to 62mph in 8.5 seconds. Diesel engines on a used Mazda6 have a good fuel economy returning between 58.9mpg and 68.9mpg.

Features you can expect in a Mazda6

Interior

The Mazda6 has a smart and stylish interior that mirrors its exterior. Through a number of design facelifts over the years, Mazda has refined the interior to ensure it doesn’t feel cluttered or overwhelming while also making sure there is plenty of in-car technology that is up-to-date with modern demands.

The cabin provides plenty of handy places to store personal items or entertainment devices, keeping the cabin smart and clutter-free. In the front, there is a large glovebox, a central storage area located under the armrest and a smaller cubby in the centre console for smartphones and other personal items. Door bins throughout the car are deep and spacious – big enough to hold large drink bottles.

A used Mazda6 can comfortably fit four adults, as both legroom and headroom are decent. The Mazda6 Tourer offers more headroom as a result of the redesigned roofline. The doors on both models open wide allowing for passengers to easily get in and out. This is also useful when installing child seats into the ISOFIX anchor points.

Technology

In the centre of the dashboard, you’ll find the touchscreen infotainment display. This screen can come in two sizes depending on the year the used Mazda6 was produced. In iterations before 2018, the screen is seven inches wide, and in 2018 the screen was enlarged to eight inches. This can be controlled via a swivel wheel and other buttons on the centre console or by using the touchscreen.

Mazda’s intuitive Mazda-Connect software and menu navigation makes the infotainment screen easy to operate. This also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, giving you the option to choose the set-up that suits you best. You can also connect via Bluetooth and USB connections. A DAB radio is also offered for onboard entertainment.

Mazda’s integrated sat nav comes as standard on all trims and provides drivers with clear and easy-to-follow map displays and directions. This also comes with a head-up display which projects this information higher up so the driver doesn’t have to take their eyes off the road.

On premium trim levels, the car’s dials are replaced with a seven-inch display. This displays the speedometer, rev counter and fuel gauge, as well as other information such as local speed limits.

Safety

When it comes to safety the Mazda6 performs very well, scoring a full five stars on the Euro NCAP crash test. The Mazda6 scored highly on adult and child occupant protection, scoring 95% and 91% respectively, and scored 73% for safety assist. This is better than the ŠKODA Superb, which scored 86% in both adult and child occupant protection, and the Volkswagen Passat, which scored 91% for adult protection and 77% for child protection.

Safety features include electronic stability control, tyre-pressure monitoring, a front-facing camera to improve the effectiveness of the automatic emergency braking system, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist. The Mazda6 also comes with an active bonnet which opens in the unlikely event of a collision with a pedestrian to better absorb the impact.

Other features include adaptive cruise control, which automatically adjusts your speed to maintain distance between you and the car in front, it can also slow down or speed up while in traffic. This works with Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support system which helps drivers avoid collisions by using laser technology to automatically apply brakes and reduce acceleration if the driver has not already anticipated the collision. Automatic wipers and lights can also feature on a used Mazda6.

Trims available on the Mazda6

The exterior features automatic headlights and wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and power-fold door mirrors that fold in to protect them from passing cars when parked.
