Mazda CX-60 updates and facelifts

As a five-door large SUV, the Mazda CX-60 is well positioned as a great family car. It also works well as a fleet vehicle and city runaround thanks to its plug-in hybrid and fuel-efficient diesel engine types.

Practicality and style of the car

The Mazda CX-60 continues the legacy of the Mazda SUV lineup, being both sporty and practical. The CX-60 comes with a 570-litre boot, which is more than enough for the weekly shop or luggage for a weekend getaway. The boot lip is almost flush to the floor, meaning you won't have any hassle getting even the bulkiest items in and out. Release levers in the boot let you fold down the rear seats, opening up a full 1,726 litres of space. That's over 150 litres more than the BMW X3 and nearly 200 litres more than the Ford Kuga.

All versions of the CX-60 can tow up to 2,500kg (braked weight), perfect for caravans, trailers, boats and camping equipment.

Running costs

Depending on the engine and trim level you choose, the Mazda CX-60 falls between insurance groups 33 and 39 (out of 50). That compares favourably with competitors like the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60, both of which reach as high as group 43.

The Mazda CX-60 is between road tax bands A and I based on the CO2 emissions the different models produce. 2.5-litre vehicles will set you back £560 per year, even if they’re plug-in hybrids, while 3.3-litre versions are slightly more at £570.

How a used Mazda CX-60 drives

There are three engine types available with the Mazda CX-60 – two 3.3-litre diesel engines and a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid petrol engine.

The first diesel engine is rear-wheel drive and produces 197bhp. It generates 450Nm of torque, making it responsive when you put your foot down. With a 0-62mph time of 8.4 seconds, this engine is quick off the mark and returns an impressive 56.5 mpg. It produces 129g/km of CO2 emissions.

The next diesel engine is all-wheel drive. Producing 250bhp, this engine takes you from 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds. It returns 53.3mpg and generates 139g/km of CO2 emissions.

The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine is the quickest, managing 0-62mph in just 5.8 seconds. Alongside the 173bhp petrol engine is a 17.8kWh battery, producing a combined total of 323bhp and 500Nm of torque, making it snappy and responsive. Its top speed of 124mph is also impressive. Thanks to its hybrid nature, you can travel over 30 miles on pure electric power before needing to top up. When it’s time to refill, a full recharge won't take more than two hours. Generating just 33g/km of CO2 emissions, the PHEV is a clean alternative providing peace of mind to the environmentally conscientious driver.

All the CX-60's engines use an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Features you can expect to find in a Mazda CX-60

Interior

The CX-60 comes alive inside the cabin. Soft touch materials and premium Japanese-style stitching elevate the upholstery, giving the cabin a luxury feel to rival many premium SUVs in its class.

The dashboard is clutter free and user optimised, with a 12.3-inch infotainment display operated by a rotary dial on the central dial. With Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can make the most of your smart devices.

The trim levels give you access to a 12-speaker Bose audio system , Nappa leather seat trims, heated seats and electrical seat adjustments, making every ride in your Mazda CX-60 a thoroughly comfortable experience.

The inside of the CX-60 is spacious and can comfortably seat four adults or two adults and three children. There is ample head and leg room in both front and back seats that facilitates a comfortably journey for all.

Technology

The headline feature of the CX-60, found in the mid-level Homura trim and above, is the Driver Personalisation System. After inputting your height, the car scans your eye level before automatically adjusting the seat and steering wheel position and tilting the mirrors. You can also set multiple driver profiles to find the right driving position easily if you share the car with other drivers.

The infotainment display also shows the reversing camera. This is helped further by the large door mirrors, affording good rear visibility. A hill descent control system also comes as standard with the CX-60, helping maintain control of the car going down steep and slippery slopes.

The driver assistance pack adds front and rear cross traffic braking, which applies the brakes if the car detects any potential collisions ahead or behind. Also included in the pack are adaptive LED headlights for power-efficient illumination that reacts dynamically to the road as you drive. Radar cruise control also helps to take the strain off longer stretches of the drive.

As well as the infotainment display, you get a 12.3-inch digital dial display as well as a head-up display.

Safety

In 2022, Euro NCAP awarded the CX-60 a full five-star rating. It scored 88% for adult occupancy protection, the third highest in the class that was tested that year. Its 91% child occupancy protection score was the highest among its class, making the CX-60 a notably safe car among rivals such as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jeep Grand Cherokee. ISOFIX child seat mounts in the rear seats cement the CX-60 as an adaptable and safe car.

Lane-keep assistance and blind spot monitoring help keep you safe on the road. Driver attention alerts keep you aware while driving and traffic sign recognition and intelligent speed assist ensure you don't miss any signs or accidentally exceed the speed limit.
