14 used BMW X4 cars in stock

With its coupé-like roofline and athletic stance, the sleek and sporty BMW X4 is a standout model on the road. First introduced in 2014, the X4 is a solid competitor to notable rivals such as the Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé.

Building on the success of the X3 model from BMW, the X4 exudes quality and offers a premium driving experience. With its good looks, five-door practicality and classy cabin, the X4 epitomises the ultimate luxury SUV. The comprehensive technology found in the X4 offers engaging driving as well as peace of mind due to its cutting-edge safety measures.

As a BMW, the X4 comes equipped with a range of superb engine options. Whichever used X4 you choose, you can anticipate plenty of power and good levels of efficiency for a vehicle of this size.

BMW X4 updates and facelifts

The second generation X4 was introduced in 2018, just four years after the initial release, and then underwent a facelift in 2021. There are plenty of used X4 options available that suit a variety of needs and all deliver a premium driving experience.

Practicality and style of the car

Though the BMW X4 is a stylish and head-turning model, there’s no shortage of practicality to be found throughout. Even with its coupé-like roofline, there’s ample storage space for day-to-day needs. The boot space on offer is an impressive 525 litres, expanding to an extensive 1,430 litres once the rear seats – which come in a 40/20/40 configuration – have been folded flat. Such dimensions ensure that the BMW X4 compares favourably with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé’s 545 litres and the Range Rover Evoque’s 591 litres. Opt for a variant with a panoramic sunroof, and the sense of interior space is further increased.

In terms of cabin space for passengers, you’ll find more than enough room to get comfortable regardless of where you’re seated. The coupé roof doesn’t hinder the headroom in the rear, with plenty of space available for two adults plus a child in the middle. There are also ISOFIX child seat points on the two outer seats, so younger travellers can be fully secure. Large door bins and a practical central storage console provide further storage space to keep your possessions safe and the vehicle free from clutter. The centre console also comes with USB charging points – both front and rear – so a number of devices can be charged simultaneously.

Running costs

With CO2 emissions that can be as low as 113g/km, the X4 is comparable to plenty of vehicles half its size. These lower emissions mean that some trims are on the lower end of the road tax scale, with selected models of the BMW X4 coming in as low as £180 per year. Those with more powerful engine outputs will be subject to higher costs when it comes to annual road tax, peaking at £570 per annum. Insurance for the BMW X4 falls within groups 31-43 (out of 50).

How a used BMW X4 drives

Whether you prefer petrol or diesel power, the X4 has an engine for you. Arguably the most popular option in the range is the xDrive 20d. This 2.0-litre diesel powertrain produces 190bhp and 400Nm of torque. This results in more than enough power for most scenarios and delivers a 0-62mph time of just 8.0 seconds, as well as a fuel economy of 49.6mpg.

If you’re looking for greater performance, the 3.0-litre xDrive 30d incorporates a six-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 265bhp, 620Nm of torque, and goes from 0-62mph in just 5.8 seconds. In addition to this, the xDrive30d can achieve up to 45.6mpg, making it a cost-effective option to run too. Topping the range is the M40d, whose 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged makeup results in figures of 354bhp and 680Nm of torque, meaning acceleration to 62mph in just 4.9 seconds, and provides up to 41.5mpg.

For those opting for petrol power, the M40i is the petrol equivalent of the M40d, achieving up to 31.4mpg in terms of fuel economy and offering 500Nm of torque. Finally, the X4 M Competition provides 503bhp and a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds, as well as having a fuel economy of 26mpg.

Features you can expect in a BMW X4

The elevated ride height of the BMW X4 is complemented by coupé-like good looks, from the iconic BMW dual kidney grille through to the bold alloy wheels. The X4’s curb appeal is further enhanced by the aerodynamic and gently flowing roofline, which contributes both to the X4’s efficient and responsive performance and distinctive style.

Interior

A relaxing ambience is complemented by the subtle cabin lighting and the plush, high-quality leather upholstery and soft-touch plastics, while chrome accents add a further touch of style to the model. Those X4s produced since the 2021 facelift also benefit from a fully digital dashboard that presents you with key driving information at a glance. There are also plenty of storage spaces throughout the cabin, and the option of a panoramic sunroof that helps flood the cabin with lights for an increased sense of spaciousness.

Heated front seats are available to boost comfort further, while three-zone automatic air conditioning enables you to set the ideal temperature throughout. Central armrests featuring cupholders in both front and rear compartments are also a convenient touch, making it practical and comfortable for all passengers within the vehicle.

Technology

In addition to the digital dashboard, the BMW X4 also comes with a wide-screen colour display that dominates the entire middle section of the dash. This intuitive system has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, enabling the streaming of multimedia and management of communications with a minimum of fuss. The 12.3-inch display runs BMW’s acclaimed iDrive 7 operating system and also provides a rear-view camera and BMW Professional Navigation, all operated by the iDrive rotary controller.

Additional technology that can be found in the BMW X4 includes wireless phone charging and a selection of climate control facilities that enable you to create the perfect driving environment throughout the vehicle. There’s also BMW ConnectedDrive online services, park distance control (PDC), an M Sport multifunction leather steering wheel, two USB Type C ports in the front centre console for charging and data transfer and two USB Type C ports in the rear for charging.

Safety

A smart and sporty performer such as the X4 includes safety features such as cruise control, acoustic parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, automatic emergency braking, cross-traffic warning and so much more to help keep you and other road users safe on the road.

In fact, such is the extent of the BMW X4’s safety credentials, the model was awarded a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with occupancy scores of 93% for adults and 84% for children. These figures compare well to the scores offered by both the Range Rover Evoque (94% for adults, 87% for children) and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé (92% for adults, 90% for children).
