The SEAT Tarraco is a large SUV offering ample space and comfort as well as great engine performance. Its large size means the Tarraco is available as both a five and seven-seater. And with smart technology and infotainment keeping everyone entertained and safe on long journeys, the Tarraco is an excellent choice for a large family SUV.

Because of its good suitability for families and easily adapted seat configuration, the Tarraco competes with other seven-seat models, such as the ŠKODA Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Peugeot 5008 and Nissan X-Trail.

SEAT Tarraco updates and facelifts

Launched in 2019, the Tarraco is the first seven-seat SUV produced by SEAT. In 2020, SEAT added the FR and FR Sport trims for an even wider range of upmarket trim levels. An update in 2021 added a new 2.0-litre engine and the SEAT Connect infotainment system to the range.

Practicality and style of the car

With all seven seats up, the SEAT Tarraco has a 230-litre boot space. In its five-seat configuration this can be expanded to 700 litres. By folding down the middle row of seats, 2,005 litres of space can be created – significantly more than the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace’s 1,775 litres and one of the largest boots in this vehicle class.

This vast space can be used to transport large bulky items easily with the Tarraco’s wide opening and flat loading floor. On either side of the loading bay, there are two deep wells that provide a useful storage space for safety equipment and small loose items. The car’s load cover can be neatly stored away beneath the boot floor.

Roof rails come as standard on the SEAT Tarraco, meaning a roof box can be easily attached for long family journeys. There are three ISOFIX points in the rear seats and front passenger seat, so it’s easy to fit safety seats.

When it comes to towing, the SEAT Tarraco with the 2.0-litre diesel engine can tow up to 2,300kg, and with a 2.0-litre petrol engine it can tow up to 2,250kg. This is enough to tow a medium sized trailer for transporting larger items or a caravan for holiday.

Running Costs

The SEAT Tarraco has reasonable running costs for its vehicle classifications. Its insurance groups range from 19 to 32 and it has a yearly road tax from £180 up to £645 depending on the trim and engine.

How a used SEAT Tarraco drives

A SEAT Tarraco can come with a range of petrol or diesel engines. An entry-level petrol engine is the turbocharged 1.5-litre TSI which generates 148bhp and accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 9.9 seconds. This engine comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and returns between 37.2 and 41.5mpg.

There is also the 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine which can generate either 187bhp or 241bhp depending on configuration. The 187bhp engine comes with a DSG automatic gearbox and can go from 0 to 62mph in 7.8 seconds, while returning fuel efficiency of 31 to 39.2mpg.

The 241bhp engine goes from 0 to 62mph in 6.2 seconds while achieving up to 32.8mpg. It is available with four-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

There are two versions of the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, which can generate either 148bhp or 197bhp. The 148bhp engine achieves 0 to 62 mph in 10.2 seconds and returns between 38.2 and 51.4mpg. The 197bhp version can complete 0 to 62mph in 7.8 seconds and returns up to 42.8mpg.

Features you can expect to find in a SEAT Tarraco

Interior

The inside of the SEAT Tarraco is smart and stylish which reflects the sleek exterior of the vehicle. The exterior is enhanced by the front grille, sharp headlights and eye-catching five-spoke hub caps on the wheels.

Depending on the trim, you will find either an 8.25-inch or 9.25-inch display on the centre console which is where the model’s infotainment system is. This display is touchscreen enabled and can come with Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity. It can also show sat nav with 3D map display.

There will also be a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster which shows your speed, fuel gauge, distance driven and fuel economy at a glance.

The SEAT Tarraco provides good levels of comfort for everyone. The front and middle seats have plenty of leg and headroom, making it comfortable for five tall adults. The rear seats are very well-suited for small passengers.

Storage cubbies are located throughout the cabin, helping keep it tidy and clutter-free. In the front there is a good-sized glovebox, two large cup-holders and a storage cubby in the central armrest which is useful for storing valuables and keeping them out of sight.

In the middle seats there are practical front seat back pockets which can be used to store entertainment devices and magazines. In the rear, there are also two small cubbies that can be used to hold personal items. Door bins are also deep and provide enough space to hold a large water bottle.

Technology

The SEAT Tarraco comes with a range of features that assist the driver when on the road. These include adaptive cruise control which responds to changes in the speed of the car in front, allowing the car to maintain a safe distance. There is also lane keep assist which helps to keep the car from drifting out of the lane. Front assist detects when vehicles or cyclists are too close to the vehicle and alerts the driver of their presence and applies the brakes if dangerous.

Safety

Euro NCAP awarded the SEAT Tarraco a full five stars. The Tarraco also scored very highly on adult and child protection tests, scoring 97% and 84% respectively. It also scored highly on safety assist with 95% thanks to the range of safety and driver assist features on the Tarraco.

Safety features on a used SEAT Tarraco can include automatic emergency braking, fog lights and seven airbags in key positions in the cabin which protect against whiplash when in a collision. Parking sensors and cameras can also feature on SEAT Tarracos, helping the driver back into those tight parking spots.

Other safety features can include a tiredness recognition system which picks up on erratic driving and alerts the driver to take a break. Traction control helps to keep the driver in control no matter the road conditions. Pre-crash assist reacts quickly before a collision occurs, by tightening the seat belts, activating hazard lights, rolling up the windows and closing the sunroof to protect passengers. Blind spot recognition is also featured on a SEAT Tarraco, alerting drivers to obstacles and other vehicles in blind spots.
