Introducing the KIA ProCeed – a sporty hatchback compact vehicle with ample interior space and innovative features. The three-door ProCeed was introduced in specific markets from July 2007 to 2013, followed by the launch of a five-door ProCeed model in January 2018. Distinguished by its iconic design, the KIA ProCeed has a streamlined roofline that deviates from the conventional hatchback look, with fun, coupé-like allure.
The ProCeed was KIA’s first performance-driven vehicle, pioneering Korea's European-style ‘hot hatch’ concept. Positioned as a practical and sporty benchmark within its market segment, the ProCeed competes against contenders such as the Hyundai i30 Fastback, SEAT Leon estate and Peugeot 308 SW in terms of capacity and running costs. It suits drivers who are looking for a blend of performance and functionality.
The KIA ProCeed was awarded two prestigious Red Dot Product Design Awards in 2019, showing that its original design is a standout in the hatchback market.
KIA ProCeed updates and facelifts
The KIA ProCeed’s first-generation model arrived in 2007. It shared its front fascia with its KIA Ceed predecessor, but with a sleeker roofline and more dynamic stance. It sported petite rear windows while an integrated roof spoiler increased its sporty allure. Under the bonnet, the ProCeed had the same engine options as its Ceed counterpart, like the T-GDi petrol engine and CRDi diesel engine, which caters to various driving preferences.
The second-generation model was introduced in 2013. A novel front fascia was instated, while the grille had a sleeker appearance. Inside the cabin, the ProCeed bolstered its front seats and made the dashboard more user-friendly for the driver.
The current generation of the KIA ProCeed, first sold in 2018, underwent a notable shift in its identity as a five-door Shooting Brake model was introduced. This transition positioned it alongside esteemed counterparts like the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake.
The KIA ProCeed delivers various powertrain choices catering to different driving preferences. It is available with petrol and diesel engine options and a selection of gearbox configurations, including automatic, manual and dual-clutch transmission.
Practicality and style of the car
The ProCeed's elongated design offers plenty of interior space, particularly regarding legroom. The 2023 ProCeed ensures easy accessibility for passengers through its five-door configuration.
Packing an ample 594 litres of boot space with the rear seats upright and 1,225 litres with the split-folding bench seat in use, the ProCeed's boot capacity proves to be highly practical and flexible and can carry everything from groceries to bicycles to flat-pack furniture. By comparison, the Hyundai i30 has a smaller 450-litre capacity, making the ProCeed a massive 144 litres larger and a strong contender when it comes to space and convenience.
With a towing capacity ranging from 1,000kg to 1,410kg, the KIA ProCeed can tow a diverse array of loads. Whether it's small trailers, lightweight caravans or even camping equipment for outdoor adventures, the ProCeed is a reliable companion for many towing needs.
Running costs
The insurance group classifications for the ProCeed depend on the variant. The 2008 model falls within groups 13 to 17, the 2013 version falls within 8 to 30, and iterations from 2018 onwards iterations occupy groups 12 to 16. The ProCeed is on a par with its rivals the SEAT Leon Estate, which falls between groups 12 to 23 and the Peugeot 308 SW, which falls between groups 19 to 30.
The ProCeed has an annual road tax rate of £180, which applies to vehicles with CO2 emissions from 110g/km to 154g/km.
How a used KIA ProCeed drives
The ProCeed comes with two petrol engine options: the T-GDi and GDi variants. A seamless six-speed manual transmission gearbox accompanies both engines.
The 1.4-litre T-GDi petrol engine displays impressive fuel efficiency and returns up to 45.7mpg. It takes 12.8 seconds to reach 62mph, while its maximum speed is 115mph. Under the bonnet, this engine generates a maximum power output of 98bhp. It has CO2 emissions of 109g/km. The 1.5-litre option generates 158bhp and returns up to 48.7mpg, while accelerating to 62mph in just over 8.6 seconds. The 1.6-litre T-GDi unit generates 201bhp, accelerates from 0-62mph in around 7.2 seconds and returns up to 41.5mpg.
The 1.6-litre GDi petrol engine balances fuel efficiency and performance, recording a fuel consumption up to 52.3mpg. Its acceleration is swift, reaching 62mph in just 9.9 seconds and boasting a maximum top speed of 121mph. The engine generates a maximum power output of 133bhp. While delivering performance, the GDi engine emits CO2 emissions of 135g/Km. There is also a 1.0-litre option which returns 57.6mpg, accelerates from 0-62mph in around 11 seconds.
The CRDi is the diesel engine option for the ProCeed that is paired with a responsive six-speed manual gearbox. The CRDi engine and its manual transmission allows drivers to make the most of the engine's torque and fuel economy. It returns up to 74.3mpg, goes from 0 to 62mph in around 11.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 118mph. It generates 126bhp. The CRDi engine's CO2 emissions are measured at a modest 104g/km.
