Arnold Clark offers the best used Kia Venga deals, guaranteed.

The Kia Venga is a supermini MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) that’s ideal for urban motorists and families. It’s an alternative to models such as the Ford B-MAX, Honda Jazz and Citroën C3 Picasso, offering good value for money.

Kia Venga updates and facelifts

The Kia Venga launched in 2010, with three-trim variations and went on to win the prestigious Red Dot design award in the same year. This five-door hatchback is small enough to allow for quick manoeuvres which makes a smart choice for discerning motorists. The Venga offers both petrol and diesel engine options with reasonable fuel efficiency and adequate power for urban driving.

The Kia Venga underwent a facelift in 2015. Changes included restyled front and rear ends, with daytime running lights being added, and an interior refresh. A new trim level – 4 – was also added to the lineup, bringing enhanced technology such as keyless entry and a heated steering wheel. The Venga 3 and 4 trims also gained a seven-inch touchscreen sat nav system.

Practicality and style of the car

The Kia Venga is surprisingly spacious, with a boot capacity of 440 litres. This extends to 570 litres thanks to a storage compartment underneath the boot floor. Folding the rear seats flat increases the total volume to a substantial 1,253 litres, which makes the Venga a strong competitor in its segment. Despite being known for its ‘magic’ seats and versatile load-carrying arrangements, the Honda Jazz still falls behind the Venga, offering up to 1,205 cubic litres of boot space when expanded.

It might not seem like an obvious tow car, but the Venga can haul an unbraked weight of 750kg and a braked weight of up to 1,300kg. That’s plenty for towing a small caravan or trailer.

Running costs

Insurance premiums for the Venga are among the lowest available. The model ranges from groups 7–15 out of 50, matching the Ford B-MAX and outperforming the Honda Jazz in terms of running costs.

Road tax varies according to the year of the model you choose. Those produced before April 2017 have a wide variation, with low-emissions iterations costing just £35 per year to tax. Those manufactured after April 2017 are charged at the standard rate of £180 per year.

How a used Kia Venga drives

The Venga comes in petrol and diesel variations. The entry-level option is the 1.4-litre petrol engine with manual transmission which generates 89bhp. Taking 12.4 seconds to reach 62mph, it offers a combined fuel economy of between 45.6 and 50.4mpg and emissions of 130g/km.

For those seeking a bit more power, a 1.6-litre petrol engine is available. This model produces 124bhp and cuts acceleration from 0-62mph to 11.8 seconds. Fuel economy remains respectable at 43.5mpg on the combined cycle. This engine can be specified with a four-speed automatic transmission, so you’ll find both manual and automatic options on the used market.

On the diesel front, the Venga offers a 1.4-litre CRDi engine, known as EcoDynamics. Producing 114bhp, this unit is the most fuel-efficient in the lineup, returning between 62.8 and 64.2mpg on the combined cycle. It also has CO2 emissions of just 117g/km and reaches 62mph in 14 seconds. It comes with manual transmission.

Features you can expect in a Kia Venga

Interior

Despite its compact size being similar to a Ford Fiesta, the Venga offers a spacious interior that can comfortably accommodate two adults in the rear seats. These seats are not only generous in terms of head and legroom but also slide and recline to help passengers find the most comfortable position. A third passenger can be accommodated in the middle rear seat on shorter journeys, but this position is better suited to a child or teenager.

Storage is ample too, with a good-size glovebox and door bins providing space for items such as drinks bottles and guidebooks. There’s also a cubby below the dash for storing a smartphone or other small items. Choose the 4 trim and the glovebox is cooled, making it the perfect place to stow snacks or drinks on longer journeys.

Visibility is another strong point of the Venga. The model's large windows and thoughtful design make it suitable for city driving where manoeuvrability is key. There’s also a commanding driving position that affords a clear view of the road ahead.

The Kia Venga's interior is designed with functionality in mind. The central console is well organised and user-friendly, helping you manage all the key features, including infotainment and climate control. When it comes to entertainment, all trims feature a six-speaker stereo and CD/MP3 player as standard. Choose the 2 grade or above for Bluetooth connectivity or the 3 and 4 trims for a seven-inch touchscreen system with integrated sat nav and a reversing camera. All variants feature a USB socket and AUX connectivity, which is handy for charging and multimedia streaming.

Technology

The Kia Venga is equipped with technological features to enhance everyday driving. All but the base-level 1 trim feature air conditioning, as well as rear parking sensors to help you avoid bumping into low objects while manoeuvring. Hill start assist comes as standard. This maintains brake pressure as you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator while the car is on an incline and prevents it from rolling backwards.

Depending on the trim level, you can also find cruise control, making motorway driving more convenient. Steering-wheel-mounted audio controls also help drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. There are 12V sockets in both the cabin and boot, for charging multiple devices.

Safety

The Kia Venga is a safe and secure choice for families and daily commuters alike. It received a full five-star rating in its Euro NCAP test in 2010, with an adult occupancy score of 89% and a child occupant score of 85%. This compares favourably to the Nissan Note, which achieved respective scores of 86% and 82%. If you’re bringing infants or toddlers along for the ride, standard ISOFIX mounting points on the outer rear seats enable you to carry them securely.

Standard safety features include multiple airbags, stability control and rear parking sensors, which make it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. There’s also a tyre pressure monitoring system and the vehicle automatically flashes its hazard warning lights for you to brake hard if it senses an obstacle.
