White VW Taigo Style from the front

The Volkswagen Taigo offers a stylish alternative to many of the most popular models in the compact crossover market. Launched in 2022 as a new addition to the manufacturer’s already impressive SUV range, the Taigo sits between the T-Cross and T-Roc in terms of size and pricing, putting it in competition with rivals such as the Ford Puma, Toyota C-HR and Nissan Juke.

The Taigo provides a well-equipped and practical interior that perfectly complements its eye-catching design. The vehicle comes in three trim levels - Life, Style, and R-Line - each offering a range of features that enhance both driving comfort and safety.

Under the bonnet, the Taigo comes with a choice of petrol engines, each of which can be admired for its responsiveness and fuel economy. There’s also an abundance of driver assistance measures that will help enhance the motoring experience and keep you protected throughout your journeys. This is an ideal model for the price-conscious family driver looking for space, style and practicality.

Volkswagen Taigo updates and facelifts

As the Volkswagen Taigo was introduced to the manufacturer’s lineup in 2022, there have not been any updates or facelifts yet. As such, purchasing a used VW Taigo means customers benefit from all the features of the latest editions available.

Practicality and style of the car

The Volkswagen Taigo combines a functional interior with a unique coupé-like rear end. Its flowing roofline offers a distinctive blend of style and practicality. Despite its compact SUV dimensions the Taigo provides 440 litres of boot space, which is ahead of the 377 litres offered by the Toyota C-HR. The rear seats can be folded down to open up even more storage space, giving you the option of carrying large suitcases or other bulky items.

The Taigo has an unbraked towing capacity of 650kg and a braked towing capacity of 1200kg, so you can tow a small trailer or caravan, ideal for weekends away.

Running costs

Part of the Taigo’s appeal is its low running costs. Insurance premiums are reasonable, with the model occupying groups 13–23 out of 50. This is on a par with both the Ford Puma (groups 11-21) and Toyota C-HR (groups 14–22).

Road tax for vehicles manufactured after April 2017 is charged at a standard rate for the fuel type. Tax for the Taigo is £180 per year.

How a used Volkswagen Taigo drives

If you're in the market for a responsive and efficient petrol engine, the Taigo has you covered. First, there is the 1.0-litre petrol engine which produces 94bhp and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The result is a combined fuel economy of 51.5mpg and 0-62mph in 11.1 seconds. CO2 emissions stand at 124g/km.

A more powerful choice is the 108bhp 1.0-litre engine which, unlike the 94bhp version, comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The latter is known for its quick-shifting and smooth operation. This engine delivers up to 51.3–51.8mpg on the combined cycle and accelerates to 62mph in 10.4 seconds. Emissions are only slightly higher, at 125g/km for the manual option and 134g/km for the automatic.

The largest powertrain in the lineup is the 1.5-litre engine which offers 148bhp. It provides extra power when hitting the open road and comes standard with the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The more powerful nature of this engine ensures 0-62mph is achieved in just 8.3 seconds. Fuel economy remains impressive at 46.4–46.6mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions don’t exceed 138g/km.
