Ford EcoSport updates and facelifts

The Ford EcoSport is a great alternative to other family SUVs in the B-segment, such as the Vauxhall Crossland, Renault Captur and the Dacia Duster. The EcoSport’s design was revised in 2015, which saw the previously boot-mounted spare wheel moved to the inside as well as the introduction of upgraded suspension and improved sound deadening. It also received new headlights and a revised interior. The EcoSport was given a facelift in 2017. Along with a new dashboard, it received a tech upgrade in the form of a touchscreen system as well as the option of a 1.5-litre diesel engine. 2017 also marked the launch of the ST-Line trim level, giving the EcoSport a sportier off-road look.

Available with petrol or diesel engines, a used Ford EcoSport gives you plenty of options to choose the right performance level for your needs. The engine line up also includes the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine – winner of 2017’s Best Engine Under 1.0-litre award for the sixth year in a row.

Practicality and style of the car

A used Ford EcoSport is a perfect family car. Thanks to its adjustable boot floor, you can either set the boot shelf to be flush with the boot lip or lower it all the way down. This expands the available boot space from 334 litres to 356 litres. This space increases to 1,238 litres with the seats folded flat.

The side-opening boot door allows you to access the boot quickly which is especially useful when you are in a rush. The boot’s low lip also makes it easy to load heavy items.

The adjustable floor can also be used as a convenient out-of-sight storage area for valuables such as laptops or personal items. This is perfect for when you are out and about in town or on an excursion and don’t want to leave personal items lying in view. You can also use this space to store emergency safety equipment out of the way but ready to hand.

Running costs

Depending on the trim level and engine type, a used Ford EcoSport will sit in insurance groups 8 to 17. Road tax is also relatively low, ranging between £35 to £200 per annum, depending on the engine’s CO2 emissions and the model’s year of registration. Typically, expect to pay £180 annually. For a subcompact SUV this is about average, making it an affordable family car to run.

How a used Ford EcoSport drives

A used Ford EcoSport comes in a range of petrol or diesel engines that are available with either manual or automatic transmission options. These engines have good fuel economy and deliver good returns while keeping costs down.

Petrol engines include the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine which can output 123bhp. Alternatively, a more powerful 138bhp iteration of this engine is also available on some trims. Petrol engines in a Ford EcoSport are economical, offering 44.8 to 53.3mpg.

When it comes to acceleration, the 123bhp petrol engine can do 0-62mph in 11 seconds, with the 138bhp petrol engine achieving 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds.

Diesel engines are available in the form of the 1.5-litre EcoBlue. It comes as either a 99bhp or 123bhp unit, depending on the trim. The 99bhp and the 123bhp engines can do 0-62mph in 13.6 seconds and 11.3 seconds respectively.

Features you can expect in a Ford EcoSport

The Ford EcoSport was revised in 2015 and received a facelift in 2017, bringing improvements to the model's design and performance. Newer iterations from 2017 onwards have an interior like the popular Ford Fiesta, with a clear dashboard and made with high-quality materials.

Interior

Depending on the trim and year, the dashboard features either a 6.5-inch or an 8-inch central infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a DAB radio. The infotainment screens come with Ford SYNC, which offers sat nav and smartphone connectivity options. On iterations after 2017, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster display is available, for at-a-glance vehicle information.

Despite being a compact SUV, a used Ford EcoSport has a good amount of space for occupants. Thanks to the raised roofline, headroom is especially good. Matching its rivals for interior space, such as the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008, the Ford EcoSport provides occupants with plenty of room. The driver sits up high in the Ford Ecosport, providing good visibility of the road ahead.

Technology

The Ford EcoSport can feature a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearshift gaiter, which gives the interior a more upmarket look. Other subtle and effective design changes are available on the different trims, such as the ST-Line’s Neosuede seat trim with red stitching.

For storage, there are several spaces dotted around the cabin. The EcoSport features an illuminated glovebox so you can find stowed items . Useful storage drawers under the front seats are also helpful for keeping the cabin clutter-free. In the back, there are also generous door wells for passengers to store their belongings away such as water bottles or children’s entertainment devices.

Extra features such as climate control, automatic lights and rain-sensing wipers can also feature on some trims. A used Ford EcoSport can also come with LED headlights and Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS), giving you greater control when driving especially during adverse weather conditions.

Safety

The Ford EcoSport achieved four stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. The EcoSport scored highly in occupant protection, with 93% for adult protection and 77% for child protection. This is higher than the Dacia Duster, which scored 71% and 66% for adult and child protection respectively.

A used Ford Ecosport comes with other safety features such as cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and ISOFIX points on the outer seats to securely fit child seats. Features such as front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring (which warms you of unseen vehicles) and auto high beam, are available on premium trim-levels.
