USED CARS SALE!
With practicality and quality at its heart, the Volvo V90 represents one of the Swedish manufacturer’s most prolific outputs: luxury estate cars. Introduced to the market in 2016 as the estate version of the Volvo S90 saloon, the V90 still looks as modern today as it did upon its first release. Winning Best Estate in the UK Car of the Year Awards 2017 cemented its position as a big player in the estate market, and it remains competitive with high-end rivals like the Audi A6 Avant and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate.
Spacious and sleek inside, the V90 is classy without sacrificing the practical features that Volvo has long been known for. Ample storage space keeps the inside uncluttered, while high-end touches like heated front seats and a touchscreen infotainment system come as standard. Generous boot space and an impressive range of powertrains elevate the V90 to luxury estate standard.
Volvo V90 updates and facelifts
A minor facelift in 2021 saw additional refinement to the Volvo V90 with one of the most notable facelift addition being the Advanced Air Cleaner system. This included an air quality monitor and PM 2.5 particle sensor to always keep air quality high in the cabin. Throughout its full lifecycle it has been praised for its forward-thinking design, both inside and out. A range of petrol, diesel and hybrid engine options are available, and three trim levels – Momentum, R-Design and Inscription – allow for a choice of advanced tech additions that enhance an already seamless driving experience. 2023 drew the curtain on new V90 sales, with the line discontinued after seven years of production.
Practicality and style of the car
A used Volvo V90 is impressively practical. As a spacious estate car typical of Volvo’s quality design, every inch of its interior is put to good use. Capacity aside, there are plenty of extra storage spaces that drivers and passengers can make use of, helping to maintain clutter-free environment. A phone can be stored beneath the front centre armrest, while two cup holders are neatly folded beneath a shutter on the centre console, popping out only when needed. Bins in all four doors are of a decent size, as is the glove compartment.
Boot capacity is satisfactory even for drivers looking to cram in passengers and large luggage. It offers 551 litres of space with the rear seats still up, which is more than enough space for packing in big bags for a family on a weekend away. Slot those rear seats down though, and the capacity rises to an impressive 1,517 litres – overtaking its rival the BMW 3 Series Tourings boot space of 1,510 litres.
A towing capacity ranging from 2,000kg to 2,200kg, depending on powertrain, gives the V90 a real stamp of approval for caravan users, too.
Running costs
The cost of running a Volvo V90 will depend on the type of engine you opt for. With a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid options, insurance will vary accordingly. Petrol V90s sit in groups 34 to 41 out of 50, while diesel versions are in groups 34 to 38. Hybrids, meanwhile, tend to be at the higher end of the insurance scale, sitting in groups 40 or 41. Road tax can range anywhere between £35 per year up to £570.
How a used Volvo V90 drives
Across all used Volvo V90s, you’ll find a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine beneath the bonnet, and either a seven or eight-speed automatic transmission. The variation of powertrains and fuel types sets them apart. Ahead of its time from the outset, the earlier V90 models included mild hybrid technology.
The entry-level petrol option, the B4, offers 194bhp and 40.3–49.5mpg, achieving 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. Its diesel version offers the same bhp but is more economical, reaching up to 47.9–50.4mpg. Two other mild hybrid petrol options, B5 and B6, can produce some serious power, hitting 247bhp and 296bhp respectively. The former can run up to 39.7–47mpg and does 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, while the latter runs at 36.2mpg and does 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds. The D5, a diesel version of the B5 is also available, hitting 232bhp and driving up to 42.2–43.5mpg.
The V90 also offers two plug-in hybrid options, both of which up the ante with their power offerings. The T6 can hit 335bhp, running up to 166mpg and reaching 0-62 in 5.9 seconds. It has an EV range of 38 miles when its battery is fully charged. The T8 meanwhile adds 50 extra horsepower, achieving 385bhp and 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds.
Across the board, the power and precision of the V90 make it a truly brilliant car for longer drives. Its interior comfort is complimented by the smooth nature of its transmission and engine combination. Plus, its healthy mpg offerings even at entry level make it a winner for long road trips. It's neat handling ensures it’s just as pleasant on the school run or city commute. Thanks to adaptive air suspension, potholes and speed bumps are easily managed by your used Volvo V90.

Features you can expect to find in a Volvo V90
Interior
As one of the larger luxury estate cars on the market, the V90 also boasts plenty of legroom and headroom, and can easily fit three passengers in the rear while maintaining total comfort.
The Volvo V90 offers occupants a stylish experience inside with everything from the dashboard to the upholstery being high quality. Leather comes as standard even at entry-level trim, and the practical storage areas retain a tidy feel throughout. The general function controls are also kept to a manageable number, so the dashboard feels as uncluttered as the rest of the interior. A nine-inch touchscreen comes as standard, and includes Google integration for maps and navigation.
Upon its introduction into the market in 2016, the V90 was commended for its forward-thinking design, both inside and out. Its facelift in 2021 accentuated its premium feel, adding extra touches that ensured it kept pace with rival competitors in the luxury estate market. This version of the V90 added a tailored wool blend to the seating as standard, with the addition of a leather-free interior option at the top-entry trim. An improved Bowers and Wilkins audio system improves the sound immeasurably, with wireless charging also available on the mid-entry trim upwards.
Technology

LED headlights and cruise control come as standard, while the manufacturer’s semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system adds peace of mind by helping drivers to ensure they maintain a safe distance to cars ahead.
Safety
With a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, the used Volvo V90 has high safety credentials to its name. An adult occupant rating of 95% and child occupant rating of 80% shore up its safe reputation further. ISOFIX seating in the rear makes car seats easy to fit and ensures small children are kept safe.
Along with its impressive crash safety, it’s the V90’s additional safety features that set it apart from the crowd. Standard equipment includes Run-Off-Road protection, which tightens all seatbelts if its sensors detect the car leaving the road uncontrollably. In addition, it has a voice control system and a City Safety suite, which detects pedestrians, cyclists or large animals. Autonomous emergency braking also comes as standard.
Trims available on the Volvo V90
With many high-quality features coming as standard with the V90, higher trim levels only serve to increase the premium feel for drivers and passengers.
Volvo V90 Momentum
The entry-level V90 trim is Momentum. Though it’s the least expensive, it’s far from sparing in its features. 18.5-inch alloys come as standard, while the interior is kitted out with heated leather seats, a touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control and LED headlights for optimised visibility.Volvo V90 R-Design
A sportier option to the Momentum, the R-Design trim adds 19.5-inch matte black alloys and a black front grille to the exterior. Sports seats are also included as a touch-up to the interior, alongside spot-polished pedals.Volvo V90 Inscription
