White Renault Captur from the front

The Renault Captur is a compact crossover SUV and one of Renault’s most popular models. First launched in 2013, the Captur’s combination of practicality, engine efficiency and good value quickly made it a highly attractive model in the B-vehicle segment.

Renault Captur updates and facelifts

White Renault Captur from the side

With a facelift in 2017, reprofiled LED headlights, an additional chrome grille and an enlarged lower intake were all added to the Captur as part of its exterior revamp. The Mk2 was released in 2020, maintaining the Captur’s successful five-door design while adding efficient plug-in hybrid engines. And, helping the Captur continue to offer great practicality, the Mk2 also grew the size of the model, adding to its interior comfort.

The Captur faces stiff competition from other spacious, efficient and desirable models like Peugeot 2008 and Nissan Juke. But thanks to its hybrid engines and class-leading fuel economy, the Captur’s award-winning credentials make it a benchmark for innovation and long-term appeal.

Boasting a stylish aesthetic and with its road-hugging design helping it handle tight corners like a breeze, it is an excellent all-round model. In 2021, it won Auto Express’s Small SUV of the Year, Car Buyer’s Best Small Family Car, Auto Trader’s Best Car for City Drivers and Driving Electric’s 2022 Best Small Hybrid Car.

From reversing into tight spots to navigating narrow roads, the Captur is well suited to lots of different drives. Available in five key trims, it’s easy to find a used Captur for sale that suits your needs.

Practicality and style of the car

The Captur competes with other rival models in the crossover vehicle class to offer the most practical drive. And with the Mk2’s length of 4,227mm, height of 1,585mm and width of 1,797mm, the Captur’s spacious design helps it do exactly that. These dimensions mean that the Mk2 is larger than the Mk1. But it is also 20mm longer than the Ford Puma and 27mm wider than the Peugeot 2008.

Thanks to its roomy design, there is a decent-sized boot which can be adjusted thanks to the Captur’s sliding seats. With the rear seats pushed all the way back, most used Capturs will have 422 litres of space, which can be expanded to 536 litres by adjusting them forward. This is more than the Ford Fiesta’s standard boot space of 456 litres, and the Peugeot 2008’s 434 litres. By folding the seats away entirely, boot space can expand to 1,275 litres – more than enough room for a family’s bags and shopping.

If you’re looking to the Renault Captur for towing support, its maximum braked capacity of up to 1,200kg will come in handy. This is enough for most small trailers and is a step-up on the Ford Fiesta’s braked figure of 900kg.

With the Mk2’s larger size, there’s even more space for passengers in the cabin. Across all five seats, there is enough head, leg and knee room for tall passengers. And, with two ISOFIX points on the outer rear seats, it’s no trouble attaching safety seats for children. Keeping the cabin tidy is also easy. 1.5-litre door bins offer more than enough room for drinks, while a front glovebox and hands-free mobile holder are useful for easily storing handheld accessories.

Running costs

A used Renault Captur promises great value running costs and this is reflected in its insurance groups. The Captur falls between groups 7 and 22, with its annual road tax coming to £180.

How a used Renault Captur drives

A used Captur can come with a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines. An entry-level petrol engine is a 1.0-litre option that generates 98bhp, accelerates from 0-62mph in 14 seconds and offers a range of 47.1mpg. There is also a 1.3-litre engine which produces 128bhp, can accelerate from 0-62mph in 10 seconds with a fuel economy of 44.1–48.7mpg.

A used Captur can also come with diesel engines. The 1.5-litre dCi engine is commonly found on the Mk1 and delivers between 72.4-76.4mpg, produces 89bhp and can go from 0-62mph in 12.6 seconds.

Unlike most of its competitors, an Mk2 Captur released from 2020 onwards could have a full hybrid engine – the E-Tech 145. This whisper quiet engine combines a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors to create a combined 139bhp. Accelerating to 62mph in around 10 seconds, this engine achieves a combined 56.5mpg.

There is also a petrol hybrid plug-in: the E-Tech 160. This engine has a top speed of 107mph and can go from 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds. It has a fully electric range up to 31 miles and offers a combined 188.3–217.3mpg.

Many engines on a used Captur for sale will come with a manual transmission. Often, this is a five-speed manual gearbox. Other Capturs may instead come with an automatic CVT transmission for continuous and smooth power delivery. In many cases, this CVT transmission will be a six-speed automatic.

Features you can expect in a Renault Captur

The Captur is a highly stylish SUV, with rounded headlights, raised haunches and striking lines across the exterior helping it stand out from the crowd. The lowered front and rear bumpers give the model a sporty appearance, while silver accents add to its desirable styling.

Interior

Silver chrome highlights add welcome contrast to the air conditioning grille and three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel. In the high-level GT Line trim, this steering wheel comes with full-grain leather for easier grip.

With the launch of the Mk2, new interior and exterior colours have been added. To give your Captur even more road presence, it can be finished with an Ivory, Blue, Brown, Red, Chrome or Orange paint.
