A used Renault Clio is a reliable and high-quality supermini car. Renowned for its practicality and compact yet stylish exterior, the Clio has proven to be a popular model with lasting appeal. Practicality and style of the car

For a supermini, the Clio feels spacious and comfortable for all occupants – four relatively tall adult passengers can travel in the Clio comfortably, even on longer journeys. Storage spaces are located throughout the interior of the vehicle to help keep the cabin tidy. There are deep door bins in the front and rear for storing entertainment devices and water bottles on long journeys. With a decent-sized boot for a car of this class, it beats many of its rivals on the market including the Ford Fiesta. Petrol variants will have around 391 litres of space, while diesel versions have 366 litres and hybrid models offer 301 litres as a result of the extra technology required.

Even with the reduction of boot space on the hybrid and diesel versions, the Renault Clio still offers more space than the 292 litres offered in a Ford Fiesta. In order to make unloading and loading easier, Renault has designed the Clio with a low lip and a wide opening. This has also helped to increase the size of the boot overall.

Running costs

Most used Renault Clios fall into insurance groups between 10 and 18 – making the Clio an affordable choice. The higher-spec trims, such as those with hybrid engines, will fall into the higher groups within this range. The TCe 90 petrol engine, for example, sits in group 14. Road tax for used Renault Clios is between £170 to £180.

How a used Renault Clio drives

Used Renault Clio's are available with petrol, diesel or hybrid engine options. Small turbo petrol engines are some of the most common in the Clio. There’s a 98bhp 1.0-litre which delivers 54.3mpg and can reach 0-62mph in approximately 11 seconds.

There is a 70bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine that has a fuel economy of 52.3mpg and does 0-62mph in just under 16 seconds. There is also a 1.3-litre petrol engine available, which also returns great fuel economy of 49.6mpg and achieves 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine is great for those who often take motorway trips. The 1.5-litre diesel engine has a fuel economy of 67.2mpg and is capable of an output of 83bhp.

The 1.6-litre petrol hybrid engine in conjunction with an electric motor and 1.2kWh battery also provides instant torque for good acceleration, offering 138bhp and taking 9.6 seconds to reach 0-62mph.
